I was wondering if its better to take it off or leave it on. I think it would run cooler with out it.

Believe it or not, They actually run cooler on. The air from the fan stays directed to the engine. You'll notice your head has the fins at a downward angle, That is to direct the air to the opening on the plastic engine cover.

That’s not a plastic cover that’s an air shroud. That’s what makes the engine air cooled.
