honda 98 300ex

i just got a 98 300ex and the kid i got it from said he put a stage 1 hot cam in it and thats the only mod it has a bad tapping sound well lit but has plentty of power is thereany one with any advise for things that cood be wrong thank you

check the valve lash. The bigger cam will make a little more valvetrain noise but better check to make sure the clearance is within spec. Im not sure what clearence is for the 300ex but its .005 in intake and .006 in exhaust for the 400ex. The hotcams website might has installation instructions of their website with the clearances.
