Painting rims

What is the best way to economicaly paint my rims? Will a basic etch then prime then paint using spray paints work or will I just be killing myself? I know the edges of the rims will get beat up and I will have to touch them up, I just think black rims would be sweet!!

rims are going to get beat, period. If its powder coat, paint, or anodized, its going to get scratched, scuffed, and chipped.

Stiffer sidewall tires will help protect the rims though, but stuff still happens.
