Well I started my winter rebuild. Right now I'm in the process of cleaning everything up and getting it all ready for painting. No powder coating for me. I so far painted my bar clamps, motor mounts and chain guard.

Heres the frame. Its so hard to get the paint off but I tried my best! I'm going to try some more tomorrow though.

Looks great Zero. What kind of paint are you using?

ZeroLogic
12-28-2007, 05:01 PM
Krylon interior-exterior paint for both primer and top coat. I had the most luck with it.

416exfreak
12-28-2007, 05:04 PM
Cool. I've always been told to use the same brand of paint for primer, top coat and clear.

Are you painting the frame the same color?

ZeroLogic

Yessir. No clear coat for me though. :chinese:
This is what I'm shooting for.

Thats a hell of a deal though, got pics?

Hows it compare to a 125?

mine
12-28-2007, 10:04 PM
It looks like garbage in that pic, it still kinda does look like garbage but $250 out of my pocket and it will look new. The 600 in suspension in march:ermm: It came with a fresh motor and a clean title so I cant complain.

Lmao I ment 250f, don't ask why I put 125.:p

mine
12-28-2007, 10:19 PM
lol I was like ummm wow, but yea.

They're completly different bikes. The 07 yz 250f that I rode handles exactly the same but the power delivery is just so much different.

A 250f still kind of reminds me of my 125. If i cracked the throttle too hard in 3rd it would bog down and sometimes stall, unless i revved the piss out of it. This 250f had the new PC ti system and a boyesen quickshot (which supposebly eliminates the bog)

Now on the other hand My yz250 2-stroke which is port/polished with a fresh motor and a radvalve, you can run the whole track in 3rd. Feather the clutch in tight spots and hold on, Or just hold on in the long sand section ( njorvp) and it will just keep on pulling, With power whenever you need it.

Honestly, if i grew money trees in my back yeard i would have
2 250f's, they're real fun to ride but almost every racer I know has 2 or 3 because they always say that they could blow at any random time.

mine
12-28-2007, 10:22 PM
A 250f with a full system/filter and quickshot will have all the power you need and nothing you won't need. If you like being man handled by your bikes, go for a 450. omg

ZeroLogic
12-28-2007, 10:22 PM
Yea I hear ya. My next bike will more then likely be an newer Yz250. I'm going to stick with my bike right now so I can learn how to clutch and ride a bike properly. I only been riding bikes for around 6 months, and been to a track once. Where you at?

mine
12-28-2007, 10:33 PM
Tomsriver NJ, I was in the same position as you when i had my 125 " i wanted to learn how to clutch and jump and all the beginner things" but all that got me was 2 fried motors and 4 burnt up clutches. You really have to ride a 125 hard to go fast on them. If I were you, once you get that thing all rebuilt and cleaned up, sell it for 1700- 1800, save 700 and buy a 2005 up 250 - stroke ( preferably yamaha ). The only thing yamah really changed on there 2 -stroke siince 05 were small things like wavy rotors or graphics. nothing too special.

I feel im kinda jacking your thread here but, this is what my bikes gonna look like when shes all done. keep us posted on your progress.

ZeroLogic
12-28-2007, 10:40 PM
I'd kill myself on a 250. I could get about 2,200 around here for my bike as well. I can barely use all the power my pinger has. I was told by a lot of older riders to keep the 125 becuase they really teach you how to clutch.
Plus I just don't have them money to throw around too.:p

What kinda of paint did you use on your frame/swingarm? Hopefully you used an enamel paint. If it's just spray paint that stuff doesn't hold up. One ride and your boots have it rubbed off, but on the bright side you can always respray it. Looks good none the less.

ZeroLogic
12-29-2007, 01:09 PM
Any type of paint you put on the frame will scratch, anything from spray paint to powder coating won't stop a rock from chipping the frame. As for the rubbing, I'm going to probably put either skateboard tape or something else that will hold up. I'm not sure if I want to use the skateboard paint because of the sand **** on there. I don't think I want it to grip my boots real bad.

KXRida
12-29-2007, 01:27 PM
Yah, but spray paint doesn't hold up to anything. Heck if you wash it too hard with a cleaner, it will take it off. Enamel holds up pretty well. I did most of my frame on my truck with enamel and so far I'm rather impressed with it.

ZeroLogic
12-29-2007, 01:31 PM
The key for spray paint is letting it sit. I did my old 300ex frame a year or two ago and I let it sit for about a month. It was real hard and held up well.

TWILES
12-30-2007, 03:55 PM
NO paint will stick to alluminum unless you use a self-etching primer. My autobody teacher didn't bother telling me that until I hosed my 500 swingarm down and it reacted. I spent 3 hours peeling it off. I worked at a machine shop after highschool and they had a hardener I put in the paint and it got as hard as powdercoat but it took a week to dry.

KXRida
12-30-2007, 07:45 PM
an enamel based paint usually hardens enough to withstand a decent amount. Once the paint cures and hardens, it doesn't matter how long you let it sit.

I know it won't hold on for long on the swing arm. But I got a few extra cans.:p
The frame is steel. The other aluminum part was the bar clamps and the sub frame but I can't see that being scratched on a daily basis.

Nice, should look killer man.

I painted my EX frame w/ some auto paint and didn't clear it. It held up pretty good but from riding down the train tracks the rocks chipped the crap out of it, but the great thing is you can just clean it up and spray over the chips :)

Good luck, and I hope it holds up well for you!

i'd either leave the griptape on or buy plastic (acerbis) frame guards or some expensive metal ones. i know money is tight, so i'd leave the griptape on. it looks alot better on bikes when they're put together, it doesn't stick out as much.

Yea, I thought I'd never get her back together!:p But got rid of the girlfriend and got a better paying job, so being single and working full time I found money.:p

I painted the tank with Krylon paint and clear coat and it started to bubble up, and it scratches real easily.:ermm: So I ain't going to put the graphics on yet. Either I gotta strip the tank and dye it or buy a black one. Then I'll put them on.

After the second trip to Montrose. The power washer took off some stickers on the rear fender and took off the paint from the gas tank. Not to sure on what to do there. I still got the tank graphics.

hit me up on aim sometime.

not to jump on the hurrican band wagon, but I was throwing around the idea of stripping my frame, painting it or sending it to pappy, dying the tank, and putting on a hurricane kit. I love them. I wish they made the henry replica for my bike. I think I like that one more.

I'm kicking myself in the *** cause of the kit. Probably the worst buy of the year. Not knocking on the kit, its a great kit, I should of redid my suspension.:ermm:

Oh yah? I'll just steal your premix from yah! :p

haha nah if I went to big bores again I think I'd go with a 250 smoker. I like the 450's and all, but I like the 250 pingers more. It'd would have to be an 05+ yz250 if I went back. That's about the only 2 stroke I'd switch back to. Either that or an 05+ KTM. My 04 200sx's suspension blew. It was seriously imo some of the worst factory suspension I've ever felt. That would be why I have a yzf now lol.

yah I know my yzf is slow :o

I just bought a wb carbon pro for it off of ebay. Someone was liquidating pipes and had a full system carbon pro with filter for $300, so I bought it. That's a $900 exhaust!!!! He has an aluminium pro on there for $250. Has 13,000 positive feedback too!

This winter... I'd like to (key work like) to get an 08 13.5:1 piston, full set of DNA wheels, new graphics, and a suspension revalve.

Revalve being the number one priority, but the wheels are $700 for the set which isn't tooo bad. That's pretty much all I really want to do to my bike for a while, then next winter new valves, cam, and porting.

yah I know haha. This isn't my first bike. Stock yamaha suspension is pretty dang good right out of the box though, but not good enough for me. I really like PR2's work.

As far as riding, haha I'm doin alright, took home a win in 250C last week.
