Will the newer 400ex front plastic bolt up to replace the old style?

I dont think so because on the 2002 400ex the lights are higher up, and the newwer ones the lights are further down.

yeah i know that, i want to do away with my lights and run a hood,so i was thinking id buy the new style fenders from ebay and then buy a hood.

YES The 05-06 style 400ex plastic will bolt right up to the 99-04. You need a couple of brackets to bolt the headlight on though. I know I have done it.
