View Full Version : Is a degree key for me?

Well I have 11:1 comp piston (.40 over), WB all around cam, WB full exhaust, clean up port job and WB cdi box. So if I put a degree key in will it help out like it did on my banshee? or is the WB cdi allready doing it for me? just tryin to spen more money so the wife yells at me!:D

According to Sparks, no. Not with high compression and a big bore.

gncc's right, it will only help you on non, or slightly modded motors. it would be a waste of money when u get a big bore, etc

I think the reason for that rule, is that an advanced timing key will raise the possibility of pre-detonation even more on a high compression motor.

Ok so I under stand about the pre detonation but if I run a higher octain fuel would that help? Or am I askin for to much?........Thanks

does the timming key really help on motors with just an aftermarket pipe?

I could tell a big difference with a power kit. I didn't even have a pipe yet, when I had it.

The timing key sux for my 400ex...major predetonation and i think it did more harm then good. I noticed very little performance gain and infact im takin my timing key outa my bike. For it only bein 25 bucks i thought good mod for the money but i actually think its not anymore. For the money try it and if it works good deal if it doesn you wasted 25 bucks but atleast now ya know.
