I dont know if any of you guys have been following this, but Ryhs Millen was supposed to be the first person in history to land a complete backflip in a motor vehicle on New Years. The event was gonna be sponsored by Redbull and was gonna be televised via ESPN. Yesterday Ryhs missed the foam pit and landed roll cage down on cement.....

I have talked to Tanner Rhys's room mate today. Rhys is out of it because of pain meds right now. He is on his way to a different hospital where he is in good hands for his injury. He has 4 fractured vertebrate all in the neck area. It is a compression fracture that is thought to be from the top tube of the roll cage pushing down on his head. His helmet has a crushed zone that matches a tube. The cause is just speculation not fact.
Rhys is getting the results of a MRI to see how bad the injury is or if he needs surgery. He has feeling and movement from what I have been told. They are just making sure there are no bone fragments in the spinal canal.
I will keep you guys posted of his condition. i will be visiting him tonight or in the morning.
Please keep Rhys in your prayers!

There is no official release, or anything that I know of.

Just friends of the Millen family(Jerry Zaiden being one) telling people what the situation is.

He didn't land on the top of the cage....the kicker portion of the ramp failed, and the truck went straight up, straight back down, missing the "soft" landing spot...and landing on the back end of the truck, on hard surface.

Here's some photos....not of the failed run...just in general.

thats horrible.. hope he can heal up real nice...

i dont understand how you do a backflip in a car... are those arms grabbing the car and pushing the rear end down? what all exacly does he do to help the back flip

The "kicker" portion of the ramp, is in an up position, which will shoot the front end up when it hits it. Also, when the front end hits it, and passes it, it drops down. Now dropped, the back end of the truck will track on the ramp..allowing to power through the ramp, forcing the truck to rotate.

Well hell, heres a video, lol.

I would have NEVER tried to back flip a stinkin' automobile..... A bike? Its reasonable. It only weighs about 200lbs. A quad? Pretty ballsy considering it weighs atleast 350lbs, but a car?!? I pray for him and his friends/family, but that was a seriously stupid idea.

i totally agree with you. you have to be a little wacko inside to even do that to boxes

That's terrible. He knew the risks involved though...........

Just a couple questions though:

1. What stopped his truck from rotating this time? It appeared he had the rotation just about dialed in from his previous practice jumps.

2. Why was the cardboard box pit not long enough this time? If the pit was longer, he probably would of walked away from this. Just like in his previous practice runs!

When the front hits the kicker it pops the front up.
The kicker is then supposed to collapse/flatten out so the back doesn't pop up also. Therefore you get rotation.

What appeared to happen is the kicker did not collapse down and the rear end was popped up also. Basically pushing the nose down. Therefore they basically counter each other to where you see the super slow rotation.

Kind of like hitting the vertical lip at the top edge of a hill climb. You basically pop straight up. Which is what you see.

Agree. Sound's like he'll have a good recovery.

Next time I bet they'll make the box pit about 30ft longer.
