bent handle bars

i was riding my 400ex and i ended up tipping it over and bent my left side handle bars down to were it will hit my knee when turning. im wondering if i bent it back to place will it be weak at that spot and bent again? my bike is still under warrenty would that cover it up? or should i just buy some after market bars? ill have pics of it up a lil later

you can bend it back but it will bend down again the next time you flip/tip.
that would not be covered under warrenty as far as i know
you'd be better off getting new aftermarket bars.

alright cool ill have to look into that.. but i just tried bending them back and its tough anyone have any ideas how to bend them back?

remove the perches and get a portable torch, or if you have it, a blowtorch.

Just set it witha fan tip (wide, yellow fire) and heat the bars. They will bend back easier when theyre hot.

Do you have a torch? Just get it red, using think welding gloves, push it back up to where you want it. keeping heat on it but make sure not to burn through it! Also, I have renthal bars and there the best I think I have flipped, hmm lets see, 1, 2, 3, 4! 4 time I have fliped it and there just as straight new!

I know that the MSR Dominators are cheap bars.

I had one good wreck in august. I didnt see a hole in the ground (4 feet deep and just wide enough for my front end to fall into). I hit it 4th tapped after flying around a corner. I think my stomah bent the bars. I had the imprint from the cross bar in my stomach for 2 days afterwards. I was puking blood, couldnt eat. I wound up going to the hospital.

It snapped the Dominators in two though. Im pretty sure the ground broke them though:p

I had the dominators on my warrior then when i got my 400ex i took them off and put them on that..I had them on the warrior for about 2 monthes and I was riding alot of XC practice tracks and when i put them on the EX i rolled it once with them on and they are still striaght as an arrow.They are a really good bar for the price

i have tag over sized bars and i fliped in 3rd and the ex bonced off the bars and landed on it's tires and the stem and bars are just like new. so i think they are pretty good:D

Over the last couple years I've twisted up 2 steering stems but my Tag T2 bars have never bent. Well worth the money.

i would defiantly not bend them back. any little bump you hit or jerking motion that happens will bend them right back to where they were. just buy some aftermarket bars something like pro taper or moose and buy the fat bars, dont fool around with the normal bars cuz they are just like the stock bars.

I flipped 3 times on my 400ex and the handle bars and the steering stem are perfectly straight. I dont know how because the 1 accidentthe bike rolled a few times before crashing down on top of me below the cliff I just tried to jump up. The other time I tried to do a front flip, j/k i didnt try i basically cased a landing real bad going real fast and the other was just doing donuts and just tipped onto its side but my handle bars and stem are perfect. My brother flipped his 400ex once and his bars are really screwed up. Aftermarket is the way to go though, i say dont bother trying to fix bent stock bars just buy some aftermarket.

ive had both pro taper fat bars, and tag t2 fat bars and i loved them both

I have tag t2's.

When the bike was flipped, the steering stem got bent real bad but the bars were unaffected:confused:

very strong bars, too low for my taste though.

if you want to bend them back (which i wouldnt)
take the grip off the side that is bent
and slide a sturdy pipe over the bar and push up on it
the bar needs to be decently long obviously ..you might need some one too stand on your tire or nerfs or sit on the quad so it doesnt lift up

thats what happens with fat bars though. out of all the people i have seen flip, (which hs been many, many cuz people in nova scotia cant drive :p) never has the bar bent and the stem stay straight or even both. its always just the stem

how the aftermarket bars are so strong would a aftermarket steering stem make it so you wont bend anything?

i heated them up and bent them back up a little bit. but not good enough im just going to buy some after x-mas is done

well if you buy fat bars and an aftermarket stem you cant guarantee nothing will bend but it defiantly decreases the chance of bending something. people have bent them before

i had renthals on my 400ex and hit a mailbox pinned in 4th (long story) it broke the shifter off but the bars were as good as new

Agreed, i had one crash on my 7/8 moose bars and they were pretty twisted, Now i have TAG t2's and they've been through 3 or 4 roll overs and are still good.
Idk if it was just the quality of the moose bars or how hard they hit, but the fatbars seem to be much stronger.

ya its also just on how the impact is. you could have a stock bar that may have rolled over 10 times but never did the bars hit the ground or have some fat bars that are awesome quality and roll 10 times but everytime on the bars which would break them for sure. all depends but having fat bars instead of regular size is more reliable.

I flipped my quad twice and had to replace the steering stem twice and the stock handle bars once. The Trail Tech X-Bars survived the second flip.

the fat bars flex more then the stockers or the aftermarket 7/8 bars so they are better for shock and for bend control

will fast flexx break or bend at all? it would really suck to pay so much and they could get wrecked in 1 roll over

if you break or bend them you can buy just the peices that broke, you dont have to spend another 300 on a new set

oh, thats good, just wondering though. Wouldnt flexx be the strongest bars?

maybe not the strongest but theyre defiantly most reliable because of their flex. also takes a lot of the arm pump and bump steering out
