bottom end. help

i own a 2000 400ex, and i pulled the engine down coz i had a broken shift fork,, so i bought all the parts and sfift.......... i went to put it back together today and i put the gears in shift forks, shift drum etc, i bolt the case down, then go 2 how the gears shift and it will only go nutral 2nd 3rd and 4th gear, so i pulled it apart aigan took it out put it in again and now it was worse it wouldnt go into gear at all,, and 1 got any ideas

on the 400ex you can put 1 of the shift forks in backwards. I think the right one. But can't remember right off hand. Just make sure the letters on all shift forks are facing in the same direction. Letters should be L, R, C.

i figuerd out that i had the spin the counter shatft for the gears to go in lol
