ok im ordering a xc cam from tc and want a higher comp piston but dont want to bore it yet. what compression piston should i get to still run 94 pump gas and do i need to get the cylinder honed to put it in? the motor only has about 25-30 hours on it.

or do yall think i would be better in the long run money wise to go ahead and do the 416 while doing all this? thanks

I believe in stock bore,,a 10.5:1 is the largest you can go on pump gas..next size is a 11:1 and then your lookin at atleast mixing pump with race gas..

Most here will agree (I think) that 10.8 is the highest you can run on pump gas. That is what I put in mine, & it does ping on pump gas (although mine is 91 octane here). I also have an advanced timing key, which probably is what puts it over the edge & makes it ping. If I were in your shoes, I would go ahead & put in a bigger piston, it will only cost a little more to get the jug bored.

Just get you a JE Piston from TC. He sells them. If you don't want to run Race Gas, go with the 10.8:1. Then with your TC XC Cam you will be tearing up the trails.

If you get a Stock Bore Piston I don't know why you would have to do anything to the Cylinder. If you get the 416 it will have to be bored.

Any time you put in new rings, with a piston or just replaceing the rings, you need to have the cylinder honed. You need to do this to remove the glaze caused from the old rings. Even if the motor has only 20 hours on it. You can rent the tool at an Auto Zone for like $20 and you get your money back when you return the tool, so it doesn't cost a thing to do this.
