what size tires is everyone here running for mx? what would you reccomend for half mx and half xc? and what ply? and what gearing are you using?

when i raced with my 400, i ran 18" mxr6's on 9" rims in the back and 20" mxr6's on 10" rims on the front. that is what i would use for straight mx. for xc and mx i'd look at something like the gncc's or maybe the HD's but they are quite heavy. for gearing i ran a 13t in the front and a stock 38 in the rear.

I used to run holeshot mxrs but now run Kenda klaw mxrs. I run 18s on 9in rims on rear and 20s on the front. I like the kendas a little better than the holeshots because its a little easier to slide but they still hook up great.

so would 20s on the back and 21s on the front be good for about equal mx and xc?

you can put whatever you want on the back and yes 20s would be good you just have to watch your gearing. if you run it with 20s and it bogs a lot drop a tooth in the front or go up a few in the back. its all about playing with things and trying them out

I usually run Razr MX rears on 8 inch wheels and Razr MX fronts on 10 inch wheels when I go to the track, but for trail riding I use 20 inch turf tamers on 10 inch wheel and 21 inch shredders on 10 inch wheels for the front.

MX gearing= 13/36

Trail gearing=16/36

It works for me:ermm:

I have 21" on the front and 20" on the rear and I ride mostly all trails and I have even done several hill climbs and technical courses where there are rocks quarter to half as big as your quad. 21" fronts will make it lower a bit in the front and better for doing both. I suggest Razr all around though

you run a 16/36 for trail riding ??? how fast do you go in 1st gear !?

yeah 16/36 if you rev it all the way according to a converter is 29.21MPH with 20" tires. I dont think the converter is exact but its pretty close

holy sh*t. ive never heard of someone running that for gearing. does it even run good ? it must be a pain going through tight spots ?

maybe he just stays in 1st all day which would suck. On really tight technical stuff sometimes 2nd gear is a bit hard and I have to drop it to 1st for a bit then back up to second. On open trails I guess that gearing would be ok but its not practical unless you have a highly moddified motor like a 440 port and polish cam piston full exhaus i could see the longer gear more useful

Dang 16/36 is kinda tall for the woods.... I'll admit I run 15/36 whenever Im not seriously racing but thats because I ride down a lot of fast trails and dirt roads and dont like my engine screaming the whole time. It gets agrivating in the real tight stuff tho. First gear is a bit too short and second gear is a bit too tall. I couldnt imagine the gears being spaced out even more with that 16tooth front.
