I just found an awesome deal on a Stepside s10. I need to know quick if a quad will fit in the bed.

Nope. A stock 400ex will not go between the wheel wells of a regular S-10. I think the stepside beds are the same width inside as the width between the wheel wells of a regular bed S-10.

A buddy of mine hauls a stock warrior in a stepside s-10 and its a tight fit. The hard part is getting past the edge where the tailgate meets the bedsides because there is a bit of a ridge.

you can make a stock 400ex fit, but it is really hard to get out. i did that once, and had to get a few people to help lift the quad out because once it was in, it was not coming out.

I only made reference to a 400ex because I knew first hand about it. The original poster has a 450r according to his sig which is wider than a 400ex.

The regular s10 will fit a quad easily. We fit kx100 and ltz400 in the back of an regular s10. But, I remember that we tried to fit a 400ex (stock a arms and axle) in the back of a s10 xtreme which had the step side and the front fit in fine but the back was a really tight fit and needed to be squeezed in. But with the regular s10 you can fit most quads.

s10's are garbage anyway. I would know, unfortunately.

Wellll. It handles like, well ****. The power ain't nothing to brag about. The build quality sucks, every bump in the road, pretty much 99% of the car rattles. The gas mileage is a joke for a v6, my parents v10 excursion gets better mileage. Oh and it breaks down like once a week. But its a beast in the snow/ offroad.

a 400ex will fit in a s10/sonoma, i drive an 01 sonoma xtreem and i have hauled my 400 with it no prob. you have to lift the front tires over the wheel wells when you load, but it can be done and even loaded by one person don't load it back wards though because even if it is easier you WILL break out your back window.

EDIT: and as for as the truck bashing, the feul economy in my sonoma as great, i dont know miles but i get 5-600km's per tank, i have yet to meet a dakota or ranger than can beat me off the line (including the v8 dakota) , i can haul my 400ex with out loosing power.....but will admit, reliability has been an issue from time to time, but it is a fun drive and will take corners at speeds nothing else i have driven will.

i'm not saying its gods gift to driving just saying i have enjoyed mine

I don't know what V8 dakota you were up against but I know for a fact that my 98 dakota is much faster than the 94 s-10 I had or any other s-dime I have driven (I used to work at a chevy dealer so I have driven quite a few of them)

To those who think the s-10 isn't reliable... I didn't think they were too bad. Much better than the POS colorado I had (lemon lawed). I would take a beat s-10 over the colorado any day. The fuel mileage wasn't that great on my 4.3 s-10 either. I get about 17-20mpg in the dakota and the s-10 only got 2-3 mpg more.:ermm: I know my dakota will pull MUCH more weight without struggling like the s-10 did. I could barely pull moderate hills with my 6x12 trailer and 2 quads with the s-10 and the dak will pull them with ease (with passing power left over)

i bet yours has at least 80,000 miles doesnt it? they fall apart once they hit that. before that i think theya re great trucks.

i always thought the power was great and i had an xtreme, so mine handled pretty good

I built ramps to go in my s10 bed I'll have to get pictures, They have a fold out ramp to go to the tailgate, it's as high as the wheel wheels and as long as the bed so the quad sits up in the air instead of beind wegged in the wheel wheels., strap it down and ready to go till I want to roll it out.

I dont consider having to pick the front tires up over the fenders to be "no problem".
