Anyone on here ride street bikes? I am looking to get into it. I want to get a GSX-R600 for my first bike. What do you guys ride, and how do you like it?

Had a CBR600F4I, loved it.

I work with GSXR'S and they are sweet bikes. My next bike will for sure be one.

Also for 08 they made some changes, take a look.

i've been riding since... 12, accually have always had a passion for bikes, hence i just graduated from Motorcycle Mechanics Institute down in phoenix, but like they said ^^, it dosnt even matter on your skill level at times, just depends if that 17yr old girl driving a tourus decides to check twice or not before she pulls out, (I found the bad end of that one)... as my instructors at MMI said at graduation, only ride as fast as your gardian angel can fly.-darren

'07 CBR600RR, great bike, best 600 you can buy!

stay away from the gsxrs they aren't nearly as good as the 600rr and the R6... they just don't handle as well and feel unstable under ya...

the best 600 class bikes are the 600rr, r6, ducati 848... the 08 r6 is supposed to be really good and the 600rr is the best handling bike out there right now... the triumph 675 daytona is a pretty good bike also but its just ugly!

right now i'm rockin a 06 cbr600rr and its more then i could ever use!

I have a GSXR 750 and a 600RR both right now, and I promise you the GSXR is a much better handling bike. I have ridden everything from R6 to 1000RR and I am going to stick to a GSXR. Suzuki has been a leader in streetbikes for a while for good reason!

You probably don't have the '07 CBR, cause it's been totally redesigned and has won all the bike shootouts.

I see your 18, so the first thing you need to do is check the insurance rates. I would estimate that for an $8k 600cc sportbike your looking at $2k minimum a year.

IMO you need a starter bike. The SVS650 and GS500 both have fully faired models that would be much better for a new rider.

Its just too easy to get in over your head on a 600cc sportbike. These bikes are capable of 70mph in 1st gear at redline. Hell the 1000cc bikes do 100mph in 1st at redline. These are not beginner bikes.

u seriously think an 02 gsxr handles better then a 600rr?? haha thats just funny... suzuki has not been the leader in sport bikes... go look at the number of wins each has and you will see that honda, ducati, and yamaha blow suzuki away... the only thing a suzuki is good for is to ride wheelies

joe is right... these bikes are very easy to get in over your head on and if your not careful it will put you in a cofin before you can blink... my lil 600rr will do 82 mph in 1st gear and its top speed is 163 mph... tryin to stay under 100 is nearly impossible to do on a ride...

Yes, I think my 02 750 handles much better than than my 04 600rr. No I have not ridden the new style 600 or 1000rr, I do have a buddy that rides an 06 RR and he says they are much better than before. I do not read any shootouts in the magazines anymore because much like an atv shootout, what one person likes other will not. Also comparing race championships to out the door street bikes is a waist of time also, they are totally different set ups.

I am by no means trying to say my bike is the best handling one made today, it is just my preference for what I do. If I was going to do a lot of track days I would probably go to a zx6rr, if I was going to stay on the drag track more I would be on a 1000, but I like my mix. I guess when I find a bike I like better I will go buy it, until then I am going to sell the RR in the spring and keep my 750 for another year.

I also agree with Joe that those models are geat starters, and have great potential also.

i have had 3 gsxr 600 and i had a 06 zx636 the 636 out handled the gsxr by far and is a much better bike every one gets gixxiers but they are not the best bike to get. and the make great stunt bikes, thats what mine was

Insurance.

I know in FL, that you actually dont have to have insurance on a motorcycle. Especially if it is only ridden a certain number of miles per year.:)

06 drz400 street legal ;) ton of fun but also kinda goofy as well....im gonna rock it for at least another year to learn on since im only 18....alot cheaper on insurance than a sportbike and slower/better seating position so its better to learn on. put 3000mi on it but still need to get my full license and take the msf course.

ill probably upgrade to a 600 after another years worth of riding on the drz

Im not gonna get involved in the pissing battle on who builds the best bikes. I sell honda and suzuki models, but have owned R6's, I can say as far as the 600 goes the cbr for 07 takes the cake. if you talk 1000cc's, no question the gsxr rules the roost. NOTHING compares to the gsxr 1000 for complete pkg. Dont take my word for it, look at how suzukis do on the podium at all the ama superbike events. Its the most "race ready" 1000 you can buy.

I just picked up my 07 CBR1000RR about 2 months ago. These things are ridiculous. Close to 100MPH in first gear, and over 180MPH top speed. I have been up to 168 and I don't plan on being there again any time soon.

heres a look at my bikes

my drz supermoto, it was a great learner bike, taught me the basics of the road, without going over my head

http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/attachments/fz6-mods/143484d1196301724t-competition-wavex-s4010007.jpg

then i sold it and bought my fz6, i love it! its more comfortable for traveling than a full on sport, but still has aggression to boot!

i got a 06 636, imo the gsxr and r6 are the best stunt bikes, honda got the best handling, but i think they are a little over rated in performance, but the 636 is by far the best running balls to the wall bike ive rode, and all my buddies ride honda and suzuki. 1000cc im goin with suzuki and kaw, the 08 zx10r is mean!!!!!!!

Wrong, the '08 is the same bike as the '07 600RR. The 1000RR was changed in '08, but not the 600RR.

I am well aware. I had the choice between either, but IMO the 07 looks way better than the 08. I can honestly say that I am not even close to pushing this bike to its limits, so I really don't need the extra.

You're right, my bad!! Yea, I was anxiously awaiting the '08 CBR1000RR since it was it's turn to get revamped. I have to admit, it's kind of ugly compared to the '07. I'm sure it's an awesome bike though.

Everyone has their opinions on their favorite bikes, and they are all right. It depends on what you will do with it and how big you are. The GSXR is a slightly bigger bike (compared to the Yamaha and Hondas) so they are better suited for people with larger frames.

You don't need anything more than a 600. Definitely start on nothing more than a 600.

Here's my 2003 GSXR 1000. 93MPH in 1st gear. I have hit 183 MPH (on a closed course) and still had a gear left.

i got a question why do they gear first so high to reach 100 mph when 2nd 3rd 4th 5th and possibly 6th can only get u to do 80 more lol

Regular_Joe

The gearing is high for racing where you will be going very fast 99.9% of the time. First gear gets you to 70mph (600cc) or 100mph (1000cc). Every gear after that adds about another 15-20 mph. Gearing ratios are very close once up to higher speeds allowing you to always be able to get to that sweet spot.

My guess is because it still picks up the front end with it geared the way it is. If it was geared lower you would never keep the front end down.

Started out on a 400cc Kawasaki standard. Moved to a 525cc cruiser. Then got a brand new 03 CBR F4i. Now I sold that and went to an SV650 standard.

The F4i has that cool bling factor. But honestly it got old fast. In town was torture, constantly slipping the clutch. Drew lots of attention from the cops, etc.

The SV is by far the best bike I have ever had. Its got lots of down low torque for in town. Plus its got plenty of get up and go anywhere under 100mph (which is where I spend 100% of my driving time).

My first bike was an 01 gsxr 600. Like others said, I would stick with a 600 or smaller for a first bike. I bought mine scratched up on both sides so that when I put it down I wouldn't be so upset, and when you are learning to ride you will likely drop it atleast once. Whatever you get, just get you some gear and try to be safe.
