Hi, I have a 07 LTR with motoworks full pipe, CFM airbox (with UNI filter), PIM and currently running stock gears. My quad seemed to do really well against all I was up against, but seemed like it could use a little more grunt. I have 20" Sand Stars, soon to be 20" haulers.

For those of you that do dune, what gearing are you running?

Drop 1 tooth on the front and you should be pleased.

yes a smaller front sprocket will help even so its not neer enough , the quad comes setup for 18'' tires ,your running 20's
so all ready your way behind on your gearing ,but you all ready know that. as well just becauce a tire may say its a 20 does not mean its a 20 ,you honestly need to do a side by side comparison
or know the roll out and compare that.
sand stars are way to heavy and way to much paddle ,good for just riding around but thats about it. even the haulers may be a bit much in 8 paddle configuration, 6 or 7 paddle would be better.
personally if you cant spin then from a 2nd gear start its to much paddle.

I run an 8 paddle 20" hauler and it seems fine, but I run in very light, silty sand. I know its still just a hair high but I like the gearing with my trail tires and for rippin down fire roads and such. Why do you need to spin them in 2nd gear? Why the 2nd gear starts. If your gearing down to make second like 1st then aren't you just making it a 4 speed bike with a lower top speed?

I'm not drag racing, just running around Glamis doing duning and running the occasional hill with my buddies. I stay away from comp and Olds and just cruise the open dunes and have fun.

If your just cruisin then 1 tooth down will do it for ya, its only 15 bucks and you don't have to get a new chain or anything.

I run a 12T front with 20x10x10's and it works really well. i run a 13T with the stock rear tires. you don't need a different chain with a 12T and i run stock in the rear.
