I'm hoping to be able to ride the weekend after christmas. I have a race the weekend after that.

A little idea I came up with. Taking a stabilzer clamp, and mounting my key inside it. Didn't want to drill a hole in those pretty new plastics....lol

I was going to wait around for the new linkage Walsh is coming out with for the stock swingarm, but heard a lot of good about the DC-6 linkage. Now if it would only come in....

I did not know that the hipers were not a true 4:1 offset. This shouldn't be a huge problem for me untill I go to a national. The 50" rule is not enforced at the places I race at normally. At a national I might have to figure something out.

You'll be under 50" with that setup. My neighbor runs the same thing.

Walsh are more like +2.5

Looks good! You will be fine with the 4-1 Hipers and Walsh a-arms.

I've had it for a while. I used it on my 300ex, and took it off when I sold it. I believe I got it off k&k atv. I'm pretty sure they still sell them too.

Thanks Nick! I really almost have as much fun building it as I do racing it. I was just looking at your CF shock guards. I wouldn't mind having a set of those. I need some hipers first though...lol

I got my streamline brakelines in today. Cernics said my Walsh a arms should be here tomorrow, but who knows....

I have a hard time believing a 17 year old paid for all this.. im 18 , work 25-30 hours a week while going to college and put my heart and sole into racing and have a hard time paying for half of everything.. were you working?

I build custom birdhouses for a company. (Kind of Gay but it pays) I also go to high school and im in a co op program that allows me to leave school at lunch every day and go to work. I work Monday through friday 12-7:30. The 4 wheeler is not paid for yet. I have 3 years to pay on it, on top of 2 years left to pay on my truck. I also just sold last month a fully built 300ex that I also built myself. That did pay for my front shocks, and a arms along wih a few other things. My parents do help with what they can when it comes to racing. They pay for all my entry fees, memberships, and gas. Now is it so hard to believe? Dont think your the only one who puts their heart and soul into racing. Also thos 2 stickers you see on my rear fender are local buisnesses who both gave me $500 each this year to help out.

I dont have a hard time believing him. I made more money when i was 16-18 in 6 months than i did a full year in army in iraq w/ combat and hazardous duty pay as a SGT. So if a 14 year old told me they made enough to pay for a new fourwheeler cash i would have a hard time not believing it.

Also ordered an extra set of tie rods. I like to keep those things around. I guess I will calL Cernics tomorrow, and see what they can do about the lower bushings. They sent me the C-clips, but not bushings.

Lookin good Stremme! But I hate to tell you, if you didn't order the bushing kit, or OEM bushings from Cernics, then you are out of luck. They don't come included in the a-arm kit. Sucks. lol. Looks great though.

300ex_#387
12-18-2007, 09:16 PM
Hey Kyle! Thanks Man! Thats sucks about the bushings. So my OEM ones out of my stock a arms will work then right? You going to be at Duquoin on the 5th? If lonestar ever gets me my linkage I will make it. I saw your LTR. Looks sweet man.

If I was you, and if you want your bushings as soon as possible, I would send Kyle a detailed parts list that you need. He has alot going on and can mix your order up. He did it to me a few times. lol Just look on a parts fiche and type everything down that you need and how many and send him an e-mail. I would have them pressed in as well. Thanks for the comment to! I've still got to get a rear shock and link, but not until this summer. I'm broke. And I hope to be at DQ. We'll see though. Good luck on finishing it!

300ex_#387
12-19-2007, 08:36 PM
Well I ended up just having ModQuad 2 day air me a set of lower nylon bushings with sleeves. I like that style better anyway. I do have a press that I can press them in myself. Broke....HAHA me too. I'm trying to scrape up some money for hipers now. I got a nice christmas bonus from work i'm supposed to be getting friday, so that will help. I hope to see you on the 5th kyle!

As for the Walsh linkage I do not have pictures. I was told they are still in the middle of testing it, and it could still be several months before it comes out. I bet it will be awesome though.

XSR thanks man! I've always loved your old 450r when it was all black and white. Kinda why I did mine sorta like that.

no...you have them on right, otherwise i dont think there would be room for the piggyback

300ex_#387
12-22-2007, 10:45 AM
There would be room. I would be swapping the left shock for right shock vice versa. I was just wondering if the evol would hit my a arm when my suspension compresses. I do have them on backwards though. I just read that in the manual.

yeah good luck with gettin that linkage soon. You are going to have to call them. I think they are backordered on pretty much everything.

300ex_#387
12-22-2007, 05:02 PM
Yeah, I've had the linkage ordered for 1 month and a week now. I canceled my order with Lonestar 2 weeks ago. I was supposed to have it 2 weeks ago, but they told me they ran out of material in the last bach and mine didn't get made. I ended up calling ATV Galaxy after I canceled my order and they told me that they had a bach being made and it was going to ship out sometime next week. (Which is this week right now). So they said they would have it drop shipped directly from LSR. I hope its on its way, if not the only thing I can do is wait it out. I already have my shock set up for that linkage, and can't change that now.

The match is pretty close, but not perfect. The hood is a little more of a pearl color. I'm pretty sure I paid around $90 from Quad Tech.

Well I got some new rear beadlocks, and tires. Also got a set of front hipers to narrow the front a little with some new tires. I didn't like the number plates that i had on there. So while I was ordering my leatt brace graphics from decal works I heard they have started making pre printed plate for quads now. So I ordered one of the first ever set of pre printed number plates for quads from Decal Works. Should be here next week. No word on my linkage still......

Well I did have some front hipers on the way, but there was a mix up and 2 people ended up sending the money for the same rims. I guess I will be going with a douglas front wheel. Kyle I think we decided we are going to Ballance the weekend after next. We still need to call and see if they are even open, or if the track is even going to be prepped. I will let you know. Idk if I have your number or not. PM me it if you get a chance.

Well I threw the stock link on, and the rear shock is sitting on that for now. Thats why the rear is sitting a little high. I wanted to get all my front adjustments done, so I had to get it on the ground.

300ex_#387
12-30-2007, 09:06 AM
This is basically what the finished product it. Only things that will change in the next week is: I am going to go with a douglas rolled edge front wheel, all my number plates are coming from decal works, and ofcourse my LSR linkage.

Awesome man. I'm down. My cell number is 618-240-0435.

Just call me or text me sometime and let me know what is up. I work all this week and go back to class Thursday of next. So if you have texting that will work best for me. I doubt I'll answer today to because of the Illini game. LOL. But just let me know when you plan on leaving and everything. I finally got my suspension set up and just need to dial it in, and I cut my fenders! I hope your linkage gets in fast! That is bogus! later man!!

Whats the number? Is that including the carbon fiber plates?

Its fine. I limp sometimes but it doesnt hurt me at all. I injured my tibia on the same leg two years ago and it hurts all the time.

Decal Works number is 800-843-8244. No they don't make the carbon fiber plates. I had a local guy do those, but there not holding up to well. I will be running B class this year. We have a lot of local fair races in the summer and I will run money class (Pro Class) at those though. Lol yeah I remember your story with you leg a couple years ago. Hey thanks for hooking me up. I will also be running B class this year.

Yes, a couple years ago some kid wrecked on the track. My 450 was 3 days old and not even broke in yet. I stopped just in time that i didnt run him over and he crawled off the track. While i sat on the landing of that 85' tabletop here comes a yz250 n sure enough he landed directly on my leg. Broke my Tibia n Fibula. That was Sept 05

Buttt theres a separate one.. haha August 1st 07 i cased an 80' double in my field and broke my femur when i hit the ground. Same leg and now i sit here with two metal rods and 6 screws in one leg. :ermm:

I was just out today busting my jumps for the first time since my injury. My leg seems to be just fine!

First i want to say amazing quad! I hope to have something even close to that someday. And i don't mean to knock u but there is no way you paid for that thing by building birdhouses and co-op. Mommy and daddy must have deep pockets cuz thats a minimum 15k u have invested there... Everything brand new, top of the line, sorry im just not buying it. Im not questioning your passion, only your funding. I have been there and i know how expensvie racing is at that age.

I wouldn't even mention it, if someone has a nice quad they have a nice quad, but since you had to stress your paying for it yourself. I mean carbon fiber numberplates com'on?! Not many pros even run those, seems a little extravagant for someone whos still in high school and its coming out of their pocket.

Well first off I would like to say thanks for the compliment, I do put a lot fo work and money into it. Yes there is about 14k invested in this right now. I purchased the 4 wheeler in october for $7,400 with the pipe, nerfbars, axle, and tires. I have 3 years to pay that off. Next I sold my Fully built 300ex that I built last year in november. I got about 3k out of that. Now I have a few local sponsers that like to help me out. I've gotten $1,500 from some very generous local buisnesses. Now I did say my mom, and dad paid for half of my rear shock...$450. Yes I do build birdhouses, and work a lot more hours than most of my classmates do, but that is where the least of my money is coming from. Now if you would want to crunch those number I believe you would find out that my parents DID help me out, but it was minimul. I stressed that I paid for all that myself at the beginning, because right away people want to start bashing that your spoiled, and don't deserve a quad like that. Well if it wasnt for a few sponsers, then no I prolly wouldn't.

Now for an update. I ordered a set of Fasst Flex bars. Should be here in a couple weeks!

I appreciate the mature response 300ex_#387, wish i could say the same for bloodmoney23. Do you own this site or something? Telling me where I can post? Com'on thats the purpose of forums to voice your opinion, if you don't like mine ignore it, simple as that. My parents have supported me all my life, i guess they saw more of a future in putting me through college than buying me a race bike that would cost the same. Sounds like your a real winner though, 25 no job and still having your parents paying for your quad expenses, you must be very proud!

I will have something nice one day, after i graduate and get a good job since I did not see it as possible to afford something like that without school. I'm just curious with all the expenses life has that how you figure a high schooler can save up 15k to spend on a hobby? Im just trying to run the #'s here, i usually made around 3k a summer working full time and thats without paying for a car, insurance, gas, food, and actually going out and doing stuff. But at least 300ex has a job so i guess its possible, your situation is truely impressive without working. Your parents must take pitty on you...Don't worry im not jealous, I have a nice 400ex that i funded myself and take alot of pride in that.

Hey Guys ,this thread was about his 450R, who the hell cares how it was built? It is a beautiful bike, flat out. There is no reason to argue over who financed his project. I personally hope he races it with success and wins more prize money than the rest of us make at our regular jobs! Good Luck to you man!!!

Hey thanks a lot guys! I plan on racing as much as I can this year. As far as winning prize money it really doesn't pay to bad. Most places around here are paying between $200-375 for first place, so it gives you something to practice for. I just order a JE 14.1 compression piston, and i'm still deciding on a cam. I am leaning towards a baldwin, or a stg 2 hot cam. Anyone got any ideas on a cam? Motor should be in the shop when my parts come in, and getting ported + polished. I will try to get some pictures soon. The weather has been pretty crappy. Hopefully my linkage will be here tomorrow I really need to get some seat time on it.

To be honest the choice of cam is up to you. Unless you are racing pro i dont think your bike needs to be super crazy. Ill be racing MX this year with just an HRC cam and 11.5:1 piston. But since you will do it now i figure do the HC2. With your bikes setup now I think youll do pretty good this season.

I ordered a stage 2 Hot Cam. I am going to go ahead and run an arenacross race this weekend to get some seat time, and take my motor in after that and they should have it done before next weekend, and I will prolly run another indoor race. I really need some seat time. Thats if my linkage comes when its supposed to....

Hey! Unreal bike! Considering a black frame? Though the silver does look good with the blackline stuff... Tough call. Tough call. Gotta love the white R's

A few questions: How did those AC bars bolt up? I had some on my 300ex. Super strong, but I don't know how you didn't scratch your frame with that prybar putting them on... Did you actually have any troubles like that? Does AC use steel bolt-on adapters at the footpeg bolts, or are there just aluminum tabs? Just curious. If you were feeling really nice.... And wanted to respect your elders... (I'm 19 :blah: ) you could send me a close up of your nerfs...

Thanks guys! I got a tracking number and the linkage should be here tomorrow. I will get my motor back on friday, and ride on Sunday!

As far as the AC nerfs...They were a huge pain to put on. I actually had to have one person stand on the nerf bar while another took a ratchet strap and cranked on it till I got it into place. Otherwise I still like the AC products. It is a steel bolt on adapter. This is the best pic I got right now of the nerfs.

First off i wana say beautiful bike man. Whether daddy and mommy helped or not you paid and earned the bike so congrats :]

To KINGPINEX college boy.

ITS WHAT WE DO BRAH. To spend 14k+ on that is well worth it to someone who loves it enough.

I am 19, work a full time job have a 4wheeler, car and plenty of other bills and STILL have money to go out and do my thing and guess what i did not have to goto some prep *** college to think i am better then anyone else. Oh and at the end of the week when im broke and waiting till next pay day i get to sit back and enjoy what i have and you don't.

You made a choice deal with it. Sad how people think they must goto college to get ahead in life. Sure its easy in the long run but some people much rather work and buy their **** and don't care as long as they are happy.

Or we could go the other road and say king's parents really don't love him and sent him off to boot camp to get him out of the house....sounds to me this is the right answer. Not enough loving at the home and did not get the special Barbie doll for xmas and wants to take it out on forums :x

I'd like to add my comments. I'm certain I can't touch Josh's skill level, to be sure. However, when I'm 60 years old, puttering around in a Rhino, want to be able to say this: "Heck yeah. When I was 19 I drained my checking account on an R. I wouldn't have had it any other way. I loved riding with all my family and friends." NOT this: "I was such a cool kid. For a few months I had 3500 dollars in my checking account. I had so much fun looking at my deposit slips. WAAAY more fun than those nutty ATV kids are having!"

...Just my future outlook.

Peace out.

Everyone is allowed their own opinions and to hang out in places with people that share the same likes and opinions. If you are on here to bash our likes and opinions get lost. If you wanna share and add to our passion then do so. He made this thread to share what he loves with all of us, and there are a good bit of us that enjoy that. I have been racing, riding, and building quads since the late 80's with my family. It was a love that me and my grandfather really shared. I'm not saying I had 15K+ quads but I for sure had the best of what was available at the time. And as long as I was trying and doing my best my grandfather always made sure I had what I needed or couldn't get myself, god bless his soul. Now I'm 25 and just finished two 20K builds that I too will be makin threads of soon to share with all. To make a long story short if this is what you are here for go find a forum or place to hang out where there are others like yourself, rather then bustin on a kids dream come true. I don't think we need input from such a negative person as yourself it's really not adding to our knowledge or helping out in any other way. This is how we roll and you either roll with the pack or get left behind.

This is how we roll, and you either roll with the pack or you get left behind!

I wasn't trying to be terribly negative, actually. Basically, I'm agreeing that if this is what Josh really loves, it's a darn shame for him not to use the resources he has to enjoy the sport the most that he can. I may not have as much, but I use what I can doing what I love, and it's awesome to see someone 2 years younger than me taking such a fresh bike to places I won't be touching until I'm out of college, not to mention the rider ability that I imagine he has. He'd put me in the can, I'm sure. Rock on.

I'm going to bite the bullet and get some AC stuff. :ermm: I have a 300 lb. Raptor-riding friend that I can use to help reshape their products before/during installation.

You would be correct on one occasion. I won Open Am, and and I was planning to be there tom., but now I have to go into work. It's stupid because my boss told me not to come in and to go race, then he decides that we have so much to do at work that just has to get done. It freakin sucks. But Jerud is signing me in in case I get to leave early if no one shows up, then I am heading straight to Sturgis. But if I don't get to race then I'm just gonna have him get me a rain check and I'll use it at the next DQ race. Good luck tom. if I don't see you!! Be careful to! Awesome looking quad man :macho

I thinks it's cool that you work to pay for all of the stuff on your quad. I wish I had more time to work but between school and trying to have some sort of "life" not to mention sleep, I don't work enough to be able to buy all of that kind of stuff for my quad.

How do you feel about the Fox setup f/r so far?

300ex_#387
01-21-2008, 12:06 PM
I LOVE this set up so far. There are so many adjustment you can do to fine tune them. I didn't really try and tune them in yesterday because there was an extra 20lbs of mud added on there. The only disadvantage is that you need to check the air pressure before every ride, because sometimes they will lose pressure. That wouldn't stop me from running them again though.
