if my quad is really cold natured and hard to start, would it help anything to run a hotter spark plug in it? if not, what else could help. its a 400EX

Maybe. But I wouldn't run a plug hotter than the stock DPR8Z. IMO, there's too much danger of overheating a DPR7Z.

Most likely the solution you seek is a richer pilot circuit. That will help it start and idle smoothly before the engine has a chance to get up to temp.

Try richening the pilot circuit by backing out the fuel screw (out is richer, in is leaner). I believe the stock setting is just over 2 turns out. Try three turns and see if that helps. If it doesn't, go to the next larger pilot jet and put the fuel screw back were it was.

Im w/ GP ^^^^

I put a 40 pilot in my old ladies 400. Made cold starts much easier.
