Damn whos pot of gold have you stolen LOL!!

To be honest I wounldnt spend that much on a vehicle right a way but thats just me, but I myself saved up 16K for a car but decided to get something alot less cheaper for insureance reasons and the threat of getting in an accident, which young kids happen to do sometimes not saying you but I mean in general.

Sense I went that route ive boughten alot of good stuff.

don't spend too much, get something to last you thru highschool, believe me you will beat whatever you get. my best friend bought a dodge for 24k when he was 16, he is like 22 now and still regrets it even though he got rid of it like 3 years ago for a stroker. its just he thought he could be doing something better with his money at the time, the rest of us got rangers and s10s and junk to beat, and had tons of good memories, while he is worried about a stone chipping his paint.. u get what i'm sayin, its not coming out of my brain rite.

yea i hear ya.

Why buy somthin thats over 15,000 and wworrie about everything that happens to it. like gettin a scratch.

Better off gettin somthing small like a ranger or S10 and beating the $hit outa it.

but still i dont wanna buy somthing DIRT cheap and end up throing a ton of money into it

All trucks rust! It just depends on how good of care you take of them. The dodges are great trucks, but I would recommend one under 2000. The 97 are very abundant and not too expensive in your case. I'm not a ford guy, but I do like the Ford trucks under 97. They look great IMO. I love GM and Dodge so I'd obviously pick one of those. I'd look into a 95-98 GM pick up or a 94-98 dodge pick up. Very abundant and not too expensive.;)

$15,000 ? Damn kid. Don't spend that much. You can get a nice truck for 5 or 6 grand easy. And you don't have to worry about it being a money pit.

why do you want/need a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck? jsut to have it? i would look for a newer 1/2 ton truck. i paid 16k for my 03 Z71 last year, you can pick up a late model truck for 15k easy. but good luck finding a GOOD diesel for that much. most diesel trucks in the price range have been beat to death and willl have craploads of miles on them. around here atleast, a decent D-max that has been taken car of still sells for 17-18k, even 01 and 02 models. you can pick up a late 90's stroker 7.3 for 10k or so. IMO thats your best option. i am diehard Chevy, but i have to say the 7.3 stroker was one hell of a motor.

Well diesels with a ton of miles doesn't exactly mean that's a bad thing. I guess paying 15k for something with 100000 miles on it isn't that good but most diesels like Cummins and Duramax will last well over 500000 miles! I'd say look into a 1/2 ton unless you are going to be towing a lot and plowing/sanding and using it for what it was meant for;)

15 to 20 grand isn't that much...i see you are only 14 and still live with mommy and/or daddy...

15-20 grand is a lot when life expenses are an issue also..
house payment
heating
electricity
groceries
auto insurance
fuel for the auto,
health insurance
life insurance
cable/satellite
internet
auto maintenance/ repairs
health costs
as well as many others all add up to make 15 grand seem like a lot...but then again, you don't have to worry about that yet

then you should not be one to be saying that 15 to 20 grand is not much...your parents cover all of your expenses...until the costs of life are an issue, reality needs to set in here. work for your money at an actual job where taxes are taken and see how long it takes to get to 15 or 20 grand

Regardless of where you get the money, I'd like to know where you're going to find a Duramax for $15k, besides a junkyard.

diesels aren't cheap to fix, grant gas motors cost money, on diesels with higher miles you have things like injectors and turbo that will put a real hurting on your bank account. where I used to work I spent a decent amount of time working on first generation powerstrokes, when they hit 200-225k miles it seems like every accessory on the front of the motor goes bad except the powersteering pump. When I look at a vehicle I take the vehicle cost and figure out how long I intend to own it and a reasonable figure of how many miles it will be driven until it is sold or junked whatever, figure out a reasonable estimate of the maintenance you will incur in its lifetime with you, such as brakes, service, tune-up, gas insurance, and allow maybe $1000 for a semi major failure if your going to own it for a long time like over 100k miles. Then calculate what it costs per mile to drive it. I haven't needed to do this in a few years but I always aimed for about $0.25 per mile, maybe a little more now because of gas but I see people buying a beat up diesel for 9-10k with 200k+ miles and realize its going to nickel and dime them to death before it totally dies or they sell it, whereas if your not needing a diesel you could have a nice lower mile gas truck for the same coin which logically to me you can operate cheaper in the long run, sure it doesn't always work out that way but thats the way I figure. Also if you get a loan, please don't look at the monthly payment, look at how much you are going to pay total, its all money whether you pay it now or over 5 years its money you lose when you string out payments or get piss poor interest rates.

I gotta say if you can possibly pay cash for your first car do it, that way your not having to bust *** through school to make your car payment and can use your money from your job for gas and repairs or taking the g/f out, if you got some left over save it for when you want to buy a new car, then you atleast can have a good downpayment. and if your getting a loan always have a downpayment of atleast 10% of vehicle cost, it will help your loan and will prove to yourself that you are ready to take on the payment.

I wish my parents bought me stuff. With $15,000 I wouldn't be looking at a 93 F150.

I would look into a 04 F150.

I paid for my truck myself and have to pay for my insurance and gas.

I know people that their parents bought them brand new cars when they just turn 16.

I know what your saying, believe me one day you will look back and be thankful, you may not know it but your learning much more this way, about life. Many of us have been in your shoes, I actually had it figured out how to own and be able to pay for a new $35,000 car when I was 16/17, my dad wouldn't co-sign, not in a million years, and for that I am very thankful now.

I got my dad to pay for my dodge. Im making my last payment to him next month, and I'll be 16 in 6 months.

He gave 1500 and my old Bayou 220 for it.

93' dodge with a 360 magnum V8. I havent done anything but put gas, tires and oil in/on it. It hasnt given me the first problem.
I love living in the middle of nowhere. Im 15 but I can drive wherever I want to:D

Hahaha aint it the truth. Ive made 7000 at my job this year. I am 17 and about to be 18. I am making more than any of my friends! My parents pay my insurance, cell bill, buy my clothes. I barely have enough left over to buy quad parts let alone buy a damn vehicle!

How old do you have to be before you can drive w/o a fully licensed passenger in the US?

Here in Canada you can't go for the G1 until you turn 16 and then one year until you can do the test for the G2.. Seems like you guys are alot younger and driving?

I can't go for my G2 until January 3rd :(
