i was looking in one of my mags yesterday and i saw that they have a stroker kit for the 400. it claims to make almost 460cc!!!!! was wondering if anyone had this or if it was worth it? the cost was almost 600 for a crank and piston. i just put in a high comp piston, cam and exhaust for about the same price but was wondering what the power was like and how bad it make the bike fall apart lmao.

FST used to and may still make a 500cc big bore/stroker.

my friend had a 440 stroker, hotcam, and hmf slip on and this thing hauled! eery gear pulled just as hard as the 1st it was nuts. whats more reliable though a 440 big bore or a 440 stroker?

A stroker with aftermarket crank/rods and stock bored cylinder sleeve might be more reliable as far as hard parts go.

Compare that to a stock rod/crank and a re-sleeved big bore sleeve and obviously the stroker becomes stronger.

I found the intake valves to be the weak link, as they destroyed my 440 big bore when they snapped off at high rpm. Ouch. Maybe look into that.

There are many different strokers out there. There is one that is a 460 stroker. But there are strokers out there that range froma 440 to 505. Depening on what you want to do but for everyday riding i wouldnt go much over the 460 which is a 4mm stroker. With a 87mm pistion in it. You can also use stock pistion with some stroker motors and make it a 440 stroker. The 440 stroker will be more reliable then the 440 big bore kit and also give you more torque then the big bore as well. I run a stroker motor in my bike and think theyare great depending on what you want to do. But some of them can be costly.

i mostly ride in the woods and stuff but im gonna start racing i think my friend wants me to try flat track with him but i was thinking more along the lines of gncc type stuff.......was thinking of this as an option to buying a 450 ppl say u cant beat a 450 in any way but i love my 400 lol:D

If you get that 460 stroker bulit right and get evrything done just right with the head and things. You can beat a pretty modded 450. I would put my 400 up against any 450 in a drag race.

lol sounds good i might do it but how reliable are they when done right? and doing this dose it make the low end better or worse?

so ill need the kit and valves that are stronger?anything else..on a budget for awhile so im tring to make out good lol.

oh ya! you guys think it worth lowering it and putting on slicks every week? they race flat track on friday here and its the only bike i have atm.

what mods do you currenlty have adn then I will tell you what I would do and about how much it will cost you to get it done. And yes you will get a good low end gain with a stroker motor.

Also done right the reliablity should be no problem.

If it were me I would go with the 460 but that will require you to get a big bore pistion kit to be out in.

Also some builders that do strokers are TC racing and Curtis Sparks , Gt thnder those a just to name a few of the big ones.

Alot of people run the powroll stroker as well they make a pretty good one from what I ahve heard. And if you are wanting to save alittle cash there is a guy on here with a brand new powroll stroker crank and rod for sale also he has the cyclinder and pitsion to go with it to make it a 460 Id say you could prolly get all of it for 800 bucks and it is suppose to be brand new. If you would like the link I could give it to you. If you know someone that could put it in this would be the way to go.

And you could run your stage2 hotcam with it and be alright there. But if I were you I would getbigger valves put in hd springs and a port and polish.A few names to look at when getting this done would be sparks, duncan , drg, trnity, tc and there are alot more out there. This is goign to run you anywhere from 1000 to 1700 depending on who does it. These things arent a must but would greatly help you out.
Then go with a good full exhaust and you would be well on your way to running with some modded 450's

You might also want to look into HD head studs, better valvetrain and a 8 plate clutch kit. Those will help prevent failure.

I have a 452 stroker built by GT Thunder. It uses a 87mm (416 bore) stroker piston coupled with a +7mm stroke on the crank. All the other mods are listed in my sig. The crank is pretty darn stout after crank pin is relocated outwards 7mm; it gets balanced, trued, and hardwelded to make it as strong or stronger than the stock crank when it's all said and done. It's got a HD rod to go with it as well.

I've had it for about 3 years now and this motor is rock solid reliable. Not to mention it pulls like a freight train and holds its own against newer 450's. Remember, if you build it right with the proper components and maintain it well, you should have very few issues ;)

you think its better to go with a smaller piston and a bgger stroke? rather then the 440 with the 4mm stroke?

I have the 440 with a 7mm stroker which makes it 490 but I wouldnt want to trail ride it very much it gets kind of hot. But I would go with a combo of both maybe 416 pistion and then what ever stroke you want.

I've been running the Powroll kit w/an HD rod for two seasons now without any problems whatsoever. It's just as reliable as a stocker, and a helluva lot faster. It'll hang with 450s.

BTW--The powroll kit is a 416(87mm) piston and a +4mm crank.

If you're going to be racing some classes have a 450cc limit.
