I haven't posted on this site in a long while, but figured I would show my 450r's story with you guys.

Well I went to Sand Lake the last weekend of August... it was a fun weekend until the last ride on Sunday. We were at the drag strip around 1:30 when my quad went up in flames in the middle of the race. It still doesn't feel like it really happened.. I hit the whoops and my quad made a loud *clunk* noise.. I thought my engine had blown, but my wheels spun fine so I thought it was alright.

I went to start the quad and BOOM. Flames shot out of both sides of the engine. I jumped off and it took me a few seconds to comprehend what was really happening.. Right when I saw the flames, my stomach just dropped... one of the worst feelings I've ever felt! I started yelling for someone with a fire extinguisher. I realized I better do something, and that is when I started throwing sand all over the fire.. It was all I could do at that time. There were maybe a dozen other people that rushed over and helped... a z400 roosted it a couple times, but the sand wasn't doing anything. That is when I saw the gas pouring out of it.. I reached to turn off the gas and a flame ball shot out at me, but I did get the gas turned off. I threw a few more handfuls of sand on it, and that is when a guy in a Bronco ran over with his fire extinguisher. It went out instantly. IT was the greatest feeling once it was out!!

It turns out that the loud *clunk* I heard was my rear shock coming unbolted. The bolt either broke or came out of the top mount where the shock bolts in. I am thinking that the bolt broke because I lock-tited, and torqued to the specs in the manual, but i will never know. When I hit the whoops, my shock extended and that was when it came out of the mount. When my rear hit the next one, the shock hit hard and smashed it up through my carb. That ripped all the fuel lines and such... and that is when the gas started leaking.

I don't know exactly how long it was on fire.. I am guessing maybe a minute... but it felt like an hour!! I am lucky the guy came with the fire extinguisher!

Rear end. My locknut wouldn't work, so I had to use the stock one.... for now. I need some sort of spacer for the Durablue nut to work.

WOW!!!! Quad looks great anyhow, sorry bout it burning thats pretty tough seeing something that you love goin up in smoke, atleast it wasnt the whole quad.

I would think that the heat would have made the frame weak but I guess not.

I had made my last payment a couple weeks before it happened. I was looking at insurance options when I made my last payment, but never committed to it. It all came out of my pocket. You bet I will have insurance on it now... And I am putting a fire extinguisher in my bumper!!

I think it might look kinda cool if you have a little extinguisher mounted kinda like were people mount the remote resseys for the rear shock like up front or in the back. It would kinda confuse people and be kinda of an inside joke.

my friends YFZ started on fire and I said to him "should have gotten a Honda" haha but his the shock didnt hit anything the oil overflow is placed like above the motor on the YFZ and it overfilled and leaked onto the motor causing it to go up in flames but we had a fire extinguisher right there so nothing got damaged really. Glad to see everything is back up and running again. Quad looks awesome

The pictures are glowing because your quad is very happy. haha. Looks GREAT! nater344 I also have full coverage on my quad and its like $10-14 a month. Covers everything top and bottom, and every bolt on, plus my gear. I wish someone would steal my quad, I would make money on the deal. hahaha

its not the camera making the fenders glow it just looks that good

the glow is the "honda halo" (ITS ALIVE)

the burned mess wasnt a fun place to start but you put alot of character into it

it may sound funny but when you build something up from somewhat humble beginnings, the time and effort seem to form a bond between you and the mechine.
(if you havent put in the knuckle busters and sweat its hard to understand)

I love the color scheme, real clean look

Thanks everyone!! I spent a lot of time on it.

And yes. Those are JD Performance +2s with 3+2 rims. As for how wide, I am not positive. I think around 49ish.
