You might have some starting issues unless you upgrade your piston to a high compression. (11:1 Wiseco);)

i have an old wiseco that i took out of my old 400. it doesn't have that much time on it. i think it is 10.1. i should be able to re-ring it and be fine. thanks

it'll be fine, alot better if you add a piston at the same time.

here is the old piston i was talking about. i cleaned it up with wd-40. it should work. anybody know why it has a XC on the piston?

I have the same setup that I just put in. I rode it once over Thanksgiving weekend and it ran great, no problems starting. It has more power most noticable on top, but I think with a high comp. piston it will be better. Still no 450 though

mine is piped and jetted with the Hotcam Stage 2 in it. I put it in cuz I wanted more power. It has alot more power than before the cam and I haven't noticed any additional problems starting in cold weather. I would go Stage 2 if you ever plan on going high comp or big bore. If not, just go stage 1.

I think it stands for exhaust??? No, hmm I'm stumped. Good question.

the xc should point towards the exhaust side of the cylinder.

the arrow should point towards the exhaust, XC is the ring set that will fit the pistons. Generally all hastings rings will work. Stock honda, JE, SRP, and Wiseco all use hastings (XC) rings.

Do you guys put the cam in with the motor in or out of the frame? I've never worked on my 400ex before, been thinking of upgrading her.

You can leave it in. The head cover will pull up through the frame.

if your not going to install a high comp piston then dont go with the stage 2. i would do a stage 1. i like my stage 2 with 11.1 comp. i wished i would have gone just a lil higher though. if you can have a port job or just some simple clean up done to the head while its down, you wont regret it. I run big bore 400exs and z 400s all day long and just eat them.

A buddy of mine is running a Magnum stg 2 cam that i gave to him on a stock piston. If anybody searched some on threads on this they'll know its a pretty wild grind, wilder than a hotcam stg2. Anyway his 400 is now faster than mine by about a length or 2 in a drag, it used to be the other way around. :scary:
