So guys, I just bought an 05 450r and I'm trying to get it to run right. It keeps breaking up around like 6 grand when I stab the throttle. I can get it to rev a little higher when I ease into it. I've taken the carb apart a few times and cleaned the **** out of it. I'm not familiar with the wires coming off of the carb for that air control stuff or whatever. I'm going to go pick up a new plug for it and see if that does it any justice, but I'm definitely stumped on this one.

Help me out here guys, please!:eek2:

Check your intake valves, sounds like a clearance issue...

No mods done to it. Bone stock. I'll get to checking the valves tomorrow, gotta go buy a manual so I know what clearances it needs.

Another thing. The grab bar is broken off thus eliminating my taillight. If I leave that unplugged, will it mess with anything in the electrical system of the bike?

No the tail light won't be a problem leaving it unplugged, I have a manual in PDF format that i can try and send you that section if you want.

So I'm going to Honda tomorrow to pick up a re-jet kit. I got her to rev up by stickin a pick right by the valve where the needle goes into the jet. By doing so, I eliminated the part where the needle goes in to stop moving up and down, thus more throttle!

Can anyone give me a breakdown of what that jet's supposed to do, and hot it works?

Pilot jet is for idle to 1/4 throttle, main is for the rest, so if its top end it could be the main, if your running your lid on the airbox you should be around the stock jet whick is 118 I believe.
If you have a slip on and your lid off your pilot shouold go up 2, 48 to 50 or 50 to 52, your main should be between 150 to 180, (I have good luck with a 175 or 180...)

What state are you in?
Air box lid on or off?
Spark arrestor in or out?

Near sea level with the quad uncorked a 170 main does the trick.

check the timing chain and see if it jumped any teeth i've had mine do that a couple of times when i land hard on a jump. when that happens it will rev up fine with the clutch pulled in but when the engine is under a load it sounds like there is a rev limit at around 6000 rpm. just giving you something it might be
