Well guys, we finally got the prototype to our likings. ANd have decided to stick with a Design. This is what the airbox will look like. Keep in mind, this is a PROTOTYPE. The production ones will be refined and detailed much more carefully. If you are one that wants the battery in the box....this isnt for you, this is for performance purposes. Its a HIGH AIR FLOW BOX! But we have kept the thhreat of water to a minimum. This box will sell for $140, and will NOT hit with Long Travel rear shock............ENJOY:D

pretty sick, but i wanna move my battery and stuff inside my air box. only cos the kind of riding i do. but that is way nice, like the anodizing hehe.

Extremeracer167
11-09-2002, 07:37 PM
Actually its only paint. Its liek anadizing, sticks REALLY well. Same stuff we use on our air scoops. What kinda riding do u do. I race GNCCs and love this box.

i thought Brian400ex would be all over this post. I ran it today in a complete mudfest, worked GREAT!

That looks trick. What is the lid made out of? Man those TC pipes look awesome. lol :blah

11-11-2002, 07:51 AM
just and FYI,,the box looks great,,but if you do plan on mounting the battery insdide you'll need ta beef up that rear mounting tab. The airbox I USED to run had the tab in the back like that,,the battery is too heavy for it and mine actually tore the box apart,,not just cracked..so just wanted to give you some feedback..other than that they look great.

Extremeracer167
11-11-2002, 08:19 AM
Well guys thanks for the Feedback! Right now hes going to sell them w/o the battery in the box, simply becuase its hard to find an area big enough to put the battery for the guys that run long travel rears. And there is starting to be ALOT of them out there. But He is def. planning on building one to hide the battery.:D

Extremeracer167

oh, the lid is made of aluminum. ;)

That is nice, thats cool how it comes w/ a lid. I was at my dealer today and they had clear plastic air boxes. You could see right through them.

11-11-2002, 01:03 PM
I wish CFM performance would put a lid on there cheaper box with a hole cut in it for the snorkle. If i get a different airbox it has to have a lid and a place for battery and electricial stuff. Thanks anyways Extremeracer167.

Looks great. Do you have a pic of the front of the box.(Where the Air Tube goes in.)

Do you have a pic of the box uninstalled?

Extremeracer167
11-11-2002, 02:31 PM
This box doesnt use the air tube. Its completely sealed except for the back of the lid. I think i have a pic, i just gotta get it off the computer at home.

Dave400ex
11-11-2002, 03:47 PM
Brian CFM has an Airbox that comes with a Lid, you can use the Snorkle, and all the Battery stuff goes inside.

Extremeracer167
11-11-2002, 03:59 PM
See the way we figure, the snorkal up front is just another place for water to get in. Thats why we didnt use it, plus its just more parts to take on and off the quad when trying to fix something. I still have to go up 1 size on the main jet when i put this box on, and i already ran the stock box with a modified lid. So u know its getting ALOT of airflow

Ladies and Gents, This is a hot box for us folks who need speed and less water in our air box. I know exactly how well this design works cause I designed it along with ExtremeRacer167 as my test pilot. this is not just another pretty box!!!! This was designed from the ground up as an XC racing box with high air flow and water concerns. The price we have set is actually a bargain considering the amount of hours I have in testing and construction. ExtremeRacer167 has pics of this thing after a mud bath race and performed as designed. You want added power? You want WORKS styling and looks? You want a box that takes the worry of water out of your filter? PJR has your box!!!!!Get with ExtremeRacer167 for ordering. Thanx and GOD BLESS

It sucks in air on the back of the lid. He is currently in the process of making more. And we will be selling them as soon as he is doen witht them. Some future projects we are looking into, are seat latches, XC steering stems, and Oversized oil tanks. Not promising them anytime in the near near future, but we will be working on getting them out within the next few months!

Oh ok, I see now, I didnt see that before, lol. Thats an awesome design. Can water get in there easily?

Someone in NH makes them I guess, they are made out of polycarbonate - im pretty sure, I saw them at my local honda dealer, i think they were around 140-170. I dont know a whole lot about them, but I can get some more info if you want.

Well on sunday, i raced prob. the muddiest race i have ever been in. Never missed a beat with the airbox like it was. Wasnt even a piece of dirt on my black outwear!! U will have NO worries with this box AT ALL!! I took pics of the inside of the box after the mudfest, but they didnt come out:( But i assure You, if i didnt get water in my box at that race, it isnt going to happen!

Extremeracer167,

Sounds like you guys have a really good design there. I might just be wanting to get one from you. You have said that it has performred really well in the mud, but most air boxes don't have too much difficulty with keeping out mud. My biggest concern would be how it holds up compared to stock in deep creek crossings. I rarely race a local hare scramble (or GNCC) that doesn't have at least one trip through some water - and some of it is DEEP!

Thanks,

Dennis

Dave400ex
11-14-2002, 08:35 AM
How does it do with Dust?

Extremeracer167
11-14-2002, 09:40 AM
Creekcrossings, if u would have saw this race on sunday your question would have been answered. We ran through one section(wasnt a creek crossing) but the water holes were about as deep as the creeks in indiana! And if u were there, u know how deep those get!! So i really dont see any problems with creek crossings. I just wish i had the pics of the airbox after the race, to show u guys. Water got into the box, but its designed to stay away from the filter, and thats what it does. Like i said, if i didnt get water on my filter in it at that race, its not going to!:D

Dust, I dont see dust being a real big problem either. It never realyl causes a problem, unless u mistreat your filter. I usually clean my filter after every good race, or good ride. I wont lie, sure it will let dust in your box, but every airbox gets dust in it. But i assure you, if you run a good filter and keep it clean, dust really shouldnt be a problem.

Sorry but the prototype is mine:D Have no worries, more will be available after this weekend

How do you get in the box to clean your filter?

Also, a suggustion, move the opening back a bit towards the middle of the box, so you could throw an outwears over the top of the box. (even if it doesn't do a lot, it will reassure some people that dust won't be getting in.)

People like lids.

Cool. Yeah, I just went back and looked at the pictures. Looks like it should keep the water out at least as well as the stock snorkel.

What does a brother need to do to get his hands on one?

If you are looking for a box that also will house the battery, then you should look into the ctracing airbox. Plus it looks great also.

If u want one, just let me know and we can set it up. They go for $140 + shipping. It includes the box, lid, and detailed instructions. I will soon be putting them on ebay also. Let me know if your interested.

PS. The lid comes off with 4 allen head bolts.

Def. we ar planning on it. But we are looking for someone that has a 300EX so we can make a template to do it. Not too many ppl have 300s around us. 400EX country. lol. But yes we are looking into them for a 300EX. We are gonna try sticking with hondas for right now. Thats right, no yamahahas or suckzukis;) for now, but will be looking into it in the future. keep the ideas comin, we are open to all kind of ideas!!!!!:D

Very tempting... Looks great, and what you said about it sounds even better!

I still use my stock airbox setup. My plans would to get one with the same characteristics as yours have, except it would hold the battery in there too. I understand that your design is to give maximum air... And that having the battery in there may possibly rob some of that air.

Please, keep us updated... And good luck racing!:)

Extremeracer167
11-14-2002, 09:11 PM
Well thank you marlin, and thanks to all of the rest of you who had nothing but positive comments and differant ideas. Like i said this is def. the beginning of what i think will work out REALLY well. We are out to help guys as much as possible. Thats why we keep our prices low! :) If there is anything else that u guys have brewing in your minds, let me know and we will see if we can make it a reality! This guy also makes underbelly skids, airscoops, and were workin on frame guards! For right now we are jus tin the process of getting our names out there, and hopefully we will be able to continue to put out top quality products to all of you!

Nice design, I just have one question, if water goes in through that vent. Where does it drain out at? I didn't see a hole in the bottom or anything like that. Very interested.

Extremeracer167
11-15-2002, 10:56 AM
There are drain holes in the front corners of the box. Works very very well.

Sportrax 400EX
11-15-2002, 10:59 AM
If you hit a deep creek will water flow in pretty fast through the bottom holes? Also if pressure washing the bike do you have to cover the top vent to prevent soaking the filter?

Extremeracer167
11-15-2002, 11:07 AM
Well i washed mine after the last race and it didnt have any problems sucking it in during the washinf process. And like i said, i didnt have any problems at all going through real deep holes.

Sportrax 400EX
11-15-2002, 11:10 AM
So pretty much, the angled vent allows the air in and directs any water that comes in from the top to the bottom of the box where it flows forward and out the holes in the front right? Pretty cool.

Also how hard is it to remove the lid? Can it be done in the field or are tools needed?

D.

Extremeracer167
11-15-2002, 11:22 AM
u need allen wrenches. But just duct tape one to your lid:D

Dave400ex
11-15-2002, 12:20 PM
This box just keeps sounding better and better. If you take the rear fender off like I do to clean it, just put something over the hole in the lid.

Extremeracer167
11-15-2002, 12:29 PM
Actually when i clean my quad, what i usually do is take my filter off, and put a plastic bag over the hole and clean it at the same time i do my quad. Either way, i just washed my quad off with this box, and it didnt get the filter wet at all. I use a pressure washer., the deflector works really well.:D

Extremeracer167
11-23-2002, 04:29 PM
Well ppl u can check out our auction on ebay, and let me know what ya think about the box. Thanks!:D
