what are the pros and cons to putting the crf motor on a 400ex
does everything bolt right up from the crf to the 400 with out fabricating anything
and what does it usualy cost to make this conversion

the crf motor is to tal for the 400ex frame plus motor mounts are differnt and you need to mount a radiator. so fabrication is a must. plus a crf motor will rattle a 400 frame apart. hybrids are strictly a mx quad. if you plan on racing xc or trail riding dont bother. crf motors cost around 2k. so your gunna need a crf motor carb and wirein. a radiator. a differnt oil tank. all teh fab work. its gunna be anywhere from 2.5k to 3k. the yzf motor on the other hand will fit in teh stock 400 frame. they have a shorter head and it is al ittle cheaper for around 800 to 1500 for motor carb and wireing. you will again need the radiator and all that. your lookin around 2k to 2.8k for that conversion. if the chassis is not gusseted thats a must. and you need suspension to handle the power of one of those motors expecially if ur sailing it through the air. there are alot of differnt factors to look at. you riding style skill and budget.

your better off saving up and buying a 450r if you plan on doing both.

actually that is the best hybrid u can make. my mechanic runs a 400ex/crf bike. however he has a custom built lsr frame. and the 450 is bored to a 500. its stupid fast.

well if i have to go through with all the fabricating trouble and end up spending about 3 -4 grand i think ill just get the 450r
i thought the hybird would be cheaper
i was thinking you could get the motor and slap it on there

ya unless you have a 400ex decked out that you can't sell for nearly it's worth, just get a 450r. The hybrids are nice but there is alot that goes into them.
