Well, since I just got some stuff back from powdercoat today and I'll be starting my build I thought I'd post pictures since I like seeing these too. It is going to be a complete Laeger chassis, with custom axis shocks, RPM dominator XC axle, OEM hubs, Renthal bars, Galfer lines and rotors, OEM plastic, with IMS 4.0 tank and 88 style headlight, IMS doublewide footpegs w/kickups, ITP baja rims w/ New Kenda Klaw XCR tires. The motor will start with a stock motor with supertrapp pipe modified by HRE. Once I figure out what will mount for the front bumper I will try to get a PRM Baja bumper and grab bar as well as skid plates.

I'm going to try to get this thing to have working brake lights as well.

Starting with just a frame and all the big parts, finding all the little bolts and everything will be the fun part.

I originally wanted to stick with a complete blue setup but I was having a hard time matching colors and the only the place to get maier blue plastic for cheap no longer carries them. But I am going with an OEM look with RED, Silver,Black calipers/cases, and some custom Graphics and seat cover.

just want to make sure i am reading this correct. you have a laeger 250r geometry frame that will except a 300ex motor. if you want to sell it let me know or if you find another one please let me know. i have been looking for another one. i have one of the first laeger frames that was made 250r geometry to except the 300ex motor. my frame uses 300ex plastic, tank seat.the newer ones use all 250r componets and that is what i am looking for. thanks

Ovalracer44 you have a pm. I was just wondering what airbox your frame is built for and/or you use? The previous owner used a 350X airbox and I've came across a few used ones but was thinking of trying to use a 300ex airbox so it fits the carb boot perfectly.

Do you have any pics? Does yours use a 300ex w/ battery or a 250x? Do you have to use a custom bumper or does a 300ex bumper fit?

my bike is probaly the one out of wisconsin i purchased it about 2 months ago it had a 250x motor bored and stroked to a 406 it was to much for my daughter so i put a 300ex motor in it. the laeger chassic i have is 250r geometry 250x/300ex motor it uses 250r from center of frame down, such as a arms, swingarm spindles hubs, brakes, carrier, axle, but from center of frame up it uses 300ex airbox, plastic, seat, tank, stem. basicly it looks just like 300ex frame with the exception of it is longer and made of round tubing. as far as the carb. boot it is at the fab. shop now due to the riged flex hose the used to connect the carb. and airbox. when they built this frame they raised the top shoc tower for the rear shock to make it cr500 link that is long travel so the top of the shock is right in the way of the carb. i am having a custom intake tube made to clear the shock and the frame with a small rubber boot to connect the carb. to the intak tube. as for purchasing your frame not right now i know where a lonestar chassic bike is that is full lonestar, axis lt shocks,250r geometry, with a built 350x motor from tc racing that i can pick up for around 2500.00.

Getting a little further. Got the a-arms together, the steering stem in after a ridiculous time with the bearing and checking to see what kind of bolts I need. Turns out a lot.

It will be better, ha ha ha...

Andy, what do you mean? Like handling, speed, or how it looks?

I'd like some opinions on what front setup to go with. I currently have options for:

Laeger +1 ST with Custom axis shocks
Laeger +2 ST with Custom axis shocks
Laeger +3 LT with Elka shocks

But I was thinking of getting some +1 Long travel to use with the ELka shocks.

The rear axle is an RPM dominator -2+1 so I'll probably keep it stock width in the rear or if I go with +1 and the 6-3 baja rims I could get upto +3 in the rear.

I'd like to see in all departments......i'm running +2 in the front with 4-1 rims, didnt wanna go any wider so i could stick to the trails around here and rear is +2......what kind of riding/racing do you plan on doing with it?

I think the 300ex motor winds up quicker than the 350x, but the 350x has so much torque...

btw..who's matt?

Sorry, got you confused with someone on 250R net.

It's mostly going to be a girls/beginner quad because I'm using a new 2006 stock motor with supertrapp pipe.

But odds are with the electric start and reverse, I'll end up riding it quite a bit on the trails until my CRF450/250R quad is completed.

I also have another motor I want to build into a 333. It'll probably take me a while on that one, I have to figure out how to get kick start installed on the 300ex for back up to the electric start.

Slinky are you in NY? around Syracuse? It'd be a bit of hike but maybe in the summer I'll bring it down and do a shootout.

Well, after having no quad to ride for most the summer and fall, I'm going to get this build going again, as I have a motor on it's way.

It'll be a pretty tame machine and I'm trying to keep it on a budget. Maybe down the line I'll get a big bore and some porting and cam, but for now it'll be a mostly stock motor.

This is how it's looking:

1997 Laeger stock replacement 250R frame for 250X motor - modded by HRE to accept battery box.
2006 300ex motor
Laeger stock height stem
Laeger +1 Standard travel A-arms
OEM 88 aluminum swingarm to save some weight
LSR std to +3 axle set at +2
OEM rims w/ Kenda Klaw tires
Stock shocks w/ 400ex stock fronts or Z400 fronts.
Skid plates
Supertrapp IDS exhaust
Working Taillight.

I'll post some more pics this week when I get some more progress

A couple more pics. Talk about slow progress. I've put it together a couple times and keep running into trouble with fitment. Right now the motor is causing trouble as well as the airbox problem and front bumper problem. Nothing seems to fit. Maybe one day it'll be finished.

I got rims and tires coming on tomorrow. So if anything it'll get sold as a project/roller.

which airbox are you trying to use? if it is the 300 one the tube just needs to be spun a little so its on the left side(from the rear) not the right.

BTW if the tube is too short it may be old( they shrink almost a quarter inch with age) or your airbox is pushed together(another 300 age problem)

250Renvy
04-01-2009, 09:08 AM
I've tried a 250r airbox, 300ex airbox and 350X airbox. I'll likely have to go with the 350X airbox or a custom one down the road.

I need some help with the wiring setup. Anybody got pics or reference of what plugs go where?

How does the reverse cable get installed?

born2ride14
05-23-2009, 06:19 PM
On the reverse cable just pull the arm back with some vise grips and zip tie or wire tie the arm back all the way.No cable needed, and it makes the process of putting it in reverse way easier
