thats the 300ex I'm looking at. The guy said the only thing it needs is a new starter. It didn't sound like he knew too much about quads so that didn't help me too much.

I'm not sure if the 01's are electric start or kick start, but if it's elec. start, then it could just be that. I'm not sure if it's the main starter though.

How much can this really cost depending on what it is? He said it's probably only like $20, but I'm not going to spend all my money I have on this quad to find out it's not a few bucks but a few hundred...

any help is appreciated. thanks.

well theres no such thing as a 300ex with a kickstart,,

that would be the 250x

and a USED starter will probably run you more than 20 bucks, but it may just need rebulilt

Lol sorry. Wasn't too sure if the old Exs had kick start on em' or not.

And what could it actually be? I don't know much with these starters so what would/could I have to replace?

well depending on the symptoms of the bike it could actually be a few things

the contact brushes in the starter could need replaced
the soleniod could be shot
the battery could be dead/weak

if you know or could ask the guy what the bike is specifically doing ... that would help alot

Alright, I don't think I'm going to get this one from this guy.

He said it just needs the starter switch. He said it's where you put the key in on the left side or whereever it is and you need to replace the starter switch. That's pretty much what I got out of it.

Also, the gas tank needs to be cleaned out....

So, what do you think of that? How much would a new starter switch cost me?

Thanks for the help!

Could be the push button starter switch, mine went bad, about $50.00 from the dealer, or $1.97 from radio shack, solder it to the exisiting wires and glue it into place, it worked for me, and Im $48.00 richer.
Cleaning out the tank is just about free, maybe a few oz. of gas to rinse it out.

im not sure what he means by starter switch,, is he talking about the ignition assembly? thats where you put the key in

or hes talking about the relay from the starter to the solenoid

im a little confuesed there

but cleaning the fuel tank is easy

you need to go over this thing hard,
make sure you start it, you can cross the two terminals on the selenoid with a screwdriver,,

I would also look that machine over very good in person.

Perhaps the camera was set wrong, but if not, those pictures are a few years old already. Also, if I was to sell a quad I would at least make sure none of the tires are almost flat to the rim in pictures. Neither of those two things mean much up front, but they would give me a slight picture of the seller.

Yeah, I noticed that flat tire as well. I don't think I'm going to bother with that 300ex.

$900 is all I can afford and can't find any 300ex around NJ that are running for that price but I'm going to look at this Sat.=

I really only have $900 max. Do you have any pictures of it? and if we were to really do something like this where I wouldn't see the quad before buying it or riding it before I buy it, I'd need you to take a video of it running. Sounds a little durastic but that'd be the only way of me to do a deal like that...

How much would it cost to ship it?
