Ive been looking for a truck for a while now and came across an 86 F150 4x2 XL reg cab short bed on craigslist
http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/car/484284921.html

I went and looked at it today and it looked fair. Needed a new tailgate and had surface rust in bed and spot of hood. The motor and transmission have been rebuilt and it ran good. (sounded SWEETT!!)
Im wondering if this looks like a good deal.
For $1000 it seems pretty good to me.
I could either get this one now and slowly spend money on it and get it looking great or I could wait 2-3 months and get another F150 (if i can find one) for $2000
The only thing wrong with it really is only cosmetic. (tailgate rusty, hood has a rust spot and bed has surface rust.)
For now a good cleaning would make it look alot better.

Do you guys think its worth $1000
I wont be driving it much at all.
Dont need something nice for a 1st truck

Doesn't sound like a bad deal for $1000. I bought a 86 f150 about 2 years ago I only paid $600 for it and drive it everyday;)

1000 looks like a pretty good deal. The rust is a simple fix that you can do yourself and a new tailgate can be found in a junk yard. Get it for that and rebuild it as a fun project. Do the body work yourself and get it painted a nice 2-tone or something. Not bad for a grand. The motor is prolly solid too.

Ya the tailgate looks pretty beat lol. A bedliner is an excellent idea. Then start fixing up the body and maybe a new paint job:cool: :D

tailgate doesn't even open :p

paint is pretty good actually just will need the hood repainted after i fix it.

The bedliner is a must there is nothing but surface rust on it now lol

Dad says I can get it and mom is thinking about it so it looks like i might have an 86 F150 soon.

I doubt it gets that kind of gas mileage, my 4 cylinder gets lower than that sometimes. The only reason I would buy that would be if the underneath was all clean. The body looks fine and the tailgate is alright looking too. From my experience, after buying a cheapo beater truck, I put WAY more into it than it was worth. If it is clean underneath and not leaking anything, go for it. If it is, walk away, it's not worth your time and money.

Looks like a clean truck.

A little TLC and she'll look nice.

If its got arebuilt engine and tranny then id say its a good truck.

The interior looked alright. It looked better than the inside of my 93 dodge. Lol...im taking the carpet out and putting in a vinyl floormat like is in my dads 08 dodge worktruck.:D
