Looking to add another sport atv to the garage in the future.

How does a 700 Raptor work as a play, trail machine? I ride a lightly modded 400ex at the moment, it will become my wife's if I get something like a 700 Raptor. I ride a lot of tighter trails, they are either sandy and whooped out or if I run up-state a little they will turn into hills, rocks and clay.

I have read on these forums before to stay away from the 660 Rap. Any bad traits on the new 700 or is it a good machine?

Thanks for the advice.

I would recommend either one. I have had several of the 660's and currently have an '07 700. Highly recommend either one. I do prefer the 700 over the 600, due to the geometry of the frame, ride, performance, EFI, etc, but they are pricey compared to a slightly used 660.. If price isn't much of an issue i'd go with the 700..

HAHAH.

Asking if a raptor is a trail bike is like asking if a banshee is a dune bike, of course!

The raptor was BUILT to be a trail bike.

The 700's are way better than the 660's

660's are very tippy in corners and very top-heavy. They also have a very light front end that tends to come up unexpectedly. Which is great if you love to wheelie, lol.

Ive heard abouyt 660s with reliability issues too but not to sure about that.

700 Raptor hands down is the best all around quad I've ever had. It also is the best responding quad to mods, it's very easy to get ALOT of horsepower out of:devil:

I'd totally recommend a Raptor 700, my dad has an 07 and its extremely nice.

Personally i'd kinda shy away from a 660, but if you find a really good deal i wouldnt tell you to turn it down.

Overall the 700 is one of the best trail quads i've seen, plenty of power, great handling, reverse. not heavy as hell either.

lots of after market around for it too if you're into that.

Cant go wrong with the Raptor

umm yeh the raptors are great trail quads. i have a 660, which my cousin beat the living hell out it, he sold it to me for 800$ which all i've had to do to it was a oil/filter change, new one-way clutch, an an output shaft oil seal. still runs really strong an is very fast. i've never rode a 700 but hear great things about them. with a 150 dollar lowering kit it fixes the bad handling of the 660. for a decent price id go with a 660, either one is a great machine tho

ive had my 06 700 pretty much since they came out (within a few months) And have had no major problems, becareful w/ bolts dont overtighten they seem to have weak threads in some places, also cracked my stock header pipe along w/ a feww others i know. I got the fmf and havent had a problem since. Imo its the umtimate trail machine, 450's are a little more nimble in the tight stuff but i still prefer to take the rappy out over any other bike i have if im doin woods riding.

i have both the 660 and 700r. the 700r is light years ahead of the 660. its by far the best all-around quad out there right now. The only other quad I would take a look at would be the ktm525. :D

Used to own a 660 had tons of fun on it, great trail and dune machine. Now we have a 700 the thing rips at the dunes and trails. I would recommend both but I do think the 700 is way better.

my buddy got one a while ago and its got all the basic mods on it now, intake, skids, nerfs tires dampner, blah blah. anyway it is a dang nice bike. i can easily say that if 450s were not around i would be riding one! it is a perfect intermediary between my yfz450 and my dads z400.

reliebility on a raptor 660? This is suprising to me 2 to but my friend has never changed the oil on his 2001 raptor 660 since he got it. Or the air filter....never got warmed up. Never broke in....but it still runs awesome. I keep telling him to sell it before its worth nothing:D. 7 years of getting the s*** beat outta it and it runs fine.:ermm: Seems the less you care the longer your machins last...just a thought
