I know its kind of a dumb question but what years do you think are better for mx: 86-87 or 88-89? EVen though they all have aftermarket frames, most of the pros quads look lower and longer like an 86 so im confused.

86-87 - lower geared, longer steel swingarm (+1), pushed back a-arms (-1), motor mounted on swingarm86 had diff style motor, 86 did not hav the boostbottle type dealy on the intake boot, they had diff clutches, headlight mounted on handlebars (like an old blaster)

88-89 - geared higher, shorter alum swingarm (-1), pushed forward a-arms (+1), handled better, motor did NOT mount on swingarm, had the intake boostbottle on these years, 89 had the newest, best clutch system, new style headlight (mounted in plastic, like a 250ex), bridged intake

(SOMEWHERE INBETWEEN 86-89, THEY CHANGED SOMETHING ABOUT THE HUBS AND THE SPINDLE (besides color), AND U HAV TO ORDER THEM ACCORDING TO YOUR BIKE

this is most of what i can think off, they also had diff color hubs, a-arms, swingarm, etc

88-89 is the best, IMO

I like the 86'-87' frame better(cept it breaks easy). It seems to jump better to me. The front to rear weight bias feels more comfortable. The 87-89' motor is a lot stronger though. It has more midrange.

The 86-87 a-arms also had replaceable ball joints on top, the 88-89 you have to replace the whole a-arm if the ball joint goes.

i knew i forgot a bit more, lol

here is a pointless one, the seat bushings on the 86-87 were changed in 88, now they hav slits in them, lol
