Last I read he was being tossed around by dealers on the date of which they would have them in stock in the color he wanted.

Color wasn't the issue, even thou I have to have red/black neither one is available.

I finally got a dealer I trust to call Honda last week after he was invoiced for one and it didn't show up. He was told they have them stacked up in the warehouses but can't release them until the support/service documentation etc. has been sent to the dealers.

Supposedly that will be done soon and the last word was they will be released at the end of this month.

Picked up a nice 05 400 for my 4 day trip to Hatfield/McCoy this past weekend. Had a blast with it and it makes me want the 08 even more. I will be selling it as soon as the 08 arrives....unless my wife wants it.

It looks like just a cosmetic difference. Is that the case or is their a performance improvement too?

just redesigned plastics and the exhaust guard is polished. Other than that its the same quad as the others.

I heard they reworked the front suspension a bit too

and the lenth&width are different. I think its shorter and wider, or some crap like dat

The specs on Hondas website showed the L/W to be the same as the 07's.

08 Differences that we know of so far.

Updated seat , narrower in front wider in rear.

Lighter Clutch pull

"Improved" suspension

450R type front Bumper

450R type headlight

Obviously upgraded plastic with "winged" fender supports.

Just the seat removes instead of whole rear plastic/seat

Tool kit under seat instead of tube on left rear.

Looks like there are possibly twin ram air ducts ??? (see photo)

Just got a call from one of my dealers (the one I trust). According to his weekly "report" that came in today the release date is now Dec 23rd :-(.

Glad I made the decision to go ahead and get a used one (05) until the 08s arrive. Been on riding trips every weekend with it and having a blast.

yeah. I love my 05. When you get the 08, wanna sell that hydralic clutch before you sell the bike?

I do plan to put the 05 mostly back to stock when I sell it. I am for sure keeping the Big Gun pipe and Eliminator Axle off of it for the 08.

Depending on just how much lighter the clutch pull is on the 08 will determine if I keep the Magura Hydraulic, or not. If I decide to not use it I will certainly sell it to you. Feel free to remind me.

Stopped by MR Cycles to pick up some oil this afternoon and they had just finished uncrating a 2008 400EX!!

I checked it out and it looks even better in person than in the pics. The most noticiable thing is that it looks a LOT smaller than the earlier 400EX. I guess the edgier plastic and MUCH smaller seat/tank area makes it look smaller.

The new seat feels GREAT! It is very narrow at the front much like a dirt bike and so is the tank. I would guess the seat tank area is only 6" or so wide. It is very "huggable"! The seat contours rearward to a very nice wide and flat rear section. Overall when sitting on it the tank looks and feels very slender, I like it!! As I suspected the tool kit is now under the seat and the seat does remove by itself. The new underseat area is very finished looking and is very nice and tidy.

Also notable was the updated heel guards, much larger and makes the foot area feel large for my size 12s.

The updated plastic looks fanatastic, when looking at it from above and behind the "winged section" looks like a futuristic fighter plane!

As I suspected the front air ducts below the new front "wings" do indeed send cool air from the front to under the tank and towards the snorkel. Not quite a real ram air system but it will feed cooler air into the snorkel area. The "ducts" make a 90 degree turn into the air space just in front of the tank. There is also a rubber splash guard below this area I assume to keep out mud and or hot air.

The clutch does feel lighter although not dramatically so ( I compared it to a new 07 sitting close by).

All in all it is exactly as I suspected and maybe even more so.

Unfortunately this was a white and black one so it is still sitting at the dealership instead of in my garage.

Hopefully I will get the call any day now when a red/black one arrives!!!

Man, i was at a local honda dealer and they had 5 sitting on the shelfs already to go. 2 white/black and 3 red/black. here in AZ though. Hope you get yours soon!!
