Put it in the back of your truck, then you can check the speedo for a perfectly acurate reading!! :D

ok take stock gearing ratio. divide counter shaft by rear sproket size which will give you a decimal.

take you current gearing and do the same thing.

divide current gearing by stock gearing, gives you your increase in gearing.

multiply your gearing increase buy stock top speed.

That is not taking account that an after market exhaust revs higher and also gains so speed so it is a few mph off but gets you general idea.

13/39=.333 14/37=.378 (rounded)
.378/.333=1.135 113.5% increase
70*1.135=79.45mph of corse I could be wrong, can someone check my math:D

um, i dont think that is anywhere near being right:rolleyes: :D that might be able to work if everything was stock except for sprockets

im a little confused to, i dotn think that would work unless you have a stocker.

I'm guessing with the right gearing and enough space 90+mph
79 is pretty funny, a stocker with taller gears could pull that off.:D

yea, it is, one of my dads good freinds bought it off a guy that raced it in TT and won the nats with it, then he set it up for sand and dumped like 6500 dollars into it and then somehting happened finantially i guess and he had to sell 2 of his 5 banshees and that R, so my dad traded a 48 foot goosneck trailer for it and he sold the trailer for 4000.

at the sand i drag my dad and can beat him but he says he slips gears. most of the time i out shift him but i could blip or something, well se how it goes.

A ton of HP don't mean it is faster. If a bike makes 28hp at 8900rpm and does 70mph it is no slower top speed wise as a bike that is 70hp at 8900rpm if gearing is the same. No matter what the HP is the motor will only turn so fast. The only way to gain noticeable top speed gains is to raise gearing or make it so the bike will rev much farther. More HP just means it gets there quicker. The only situation where that don't apply is a cvt tranny.

79mph is not counting the fact that most aftermarket exhaust systems rev out even farther adding a few mph.

80 mph sounds about right 80-85 ish is the porting for top or bottom to mid or mid to top?

i would say mid to top, i would have to ask the guy, we just got it, and all weve dealt with is banshees, so we still have alot to learn about it.

11-08-2002, 07:19 PM
Yea if it is then your at prolly 80 mph maybe a lil more 80 -85ish depending on how good the top end port and polish was.. port and polish does alot more than what people think, it kinda makes the cylinder alive!

I said "with the right gearing" more power does mean more top speed. Cars for instance if you have 120hp and your car tops out at say 100mph adding more power will allow the engine to hit higher RPM's with the same gearing which makes it faster, that is IF you cannot max out the motor.
