ive been throwing the idea around to bore my 400ex. i just have a couple questions about it. dose any one sell the whole cylinder and not just a sleeve? because i dont know any where to take it to. and do i have to do anything to the crank or anything? and can i use the stock carb? and any thing any one wants to throw in. thanks,

dan.

Duncan Racing is the only mfg of an after market cylinder. But be prepared for $950...

Most kits sell a sleeve with it.

IF it were me, I'd bore to a 406 or 416. Install HD head studs, HD cam chain, Stage 2 cam. If I still had more money, then I'd add a port/polish, full exhaust system, a 450R carb, and an 8 plate clutch kit.

depending on how big you go, you can use your stock carb, you shouldnt have to do anything to your crank as long as its in decient shape, and as far as getting it done, you could ship it to magic racing, they do machine work there, they charged me 50 bucks for my bore job.
you dont need to buy a new sleeve till you bore +.120

a 120 bore is a 426 btw. you can bore 120 is what im trying to say.i would say a 416 would probally be borderline needing a new carb.

wait for other peoples opinions tho.

The stock carb will be fine if your trying to save a little cash. Several of my buddies have 440s with stock carb. Are there any automotive machine shops around your area. They could bore the cylinder. I wouldnt use them for port work if you ever decided to do that, but they could bore it.

i dont know of any auto shops that do machine work. but $50 wouldn;t be bad for them to put the sleeve in. so if i get a kit it should run with everything else stock?

You only need to resleeve if you go over a 88mm bore (426). The stock carb should work with whatever you do. Its not the best, but it will definetily work. What kind of kit are you looking at?
