I just bought a 400 and the seat was bolted to the rear fenders, but neither was held on to the bike. I've heard that this is a common problem and I was wondering if anyone came up with their own system to hold the seat on???

As I recall, there is a pretty reasonable way to attach the rear plastics to the bike. Honda actually makes a part, a "latch" of sorts, that they installed on most of the 400's that roll off the factory floor. It makes this ridiculous clicking noise when you press down on the seat, and mine has never come off. I suggest you purchase and install one. The lack of an important part is not a very common problem.

i also have seat latch that came on the bike. i even upgraded recently to one that uses only pins like a quick release hood on a race car. :D

My stock seat latch was worn out. I fixed that though. I welded some 1/4 CRS where the old latch was, and it made my rear fenders as tight as they come.
