There only crap if you dont take care of them. Just like everything else, except these just need more care becuse its chineese made.

still i wouldn't mind spending like 150 for one that i can try to keep care of, and if i had 1500 for a fiddy, i would be putting it into my 450r that needs a rebuild, and if i totally destroy it, im only out 150 bucks

11-22-2007, 02:53 PM
theres 50's for sale 400-1000 dollars way better investment then one of those bike which run like 5 hours b4 they brake

Pocket bikes are not crap. Their china built but are built over all good. Theirs 2 different motors that come in pocket bikes. You want one with a cag motor. The other motor is a cat eye motor which sit tall and have no reeds and are slow motors. Cag motors are the fast ones. Also most are only in the low 40s for cc not 47-49 like said but you can get lucky and have a true 49cc. I had 3 pocket bikes.

You’re going to pay around $200 on eBay or not. The eBay places sell the bikes for like $10 and you pay $200 shipping. The comps sell the bikes for around $150 but will charger $50 for shipping.

If you get one you can make it faster for free.

Bore out the carb. It makes a huge difference!

Port and polish the exhaust port +2mm

Add 2 boost ports in the cylinder wall. They will help it rev faster. Also if you do that bore out the plastic manifold that the carb connects to.

Lighten the fly wheel by removing every other fin. To do that you take a pliers and break the fin off and then grind and sand it smooth.

The head pipe will have a lip on the inside which you want to grind down smooth.

You can lighten the clutch by drilling 1-3 holes in each clutch shoe which will help by making the clutch engage at a higher rpm.

DO NOT GET ELEC START!!! The elec start slows you down bad. It doesn’t let the crank spin freely. If you do get an elec start you can remove it.

For some money you can buy a big bore kit for around $150 and it will make it about 52cc and you choose from 13:1 to 17:1 compression.

You can also add Nitrous for around $20.

Heres a vid of a kid crashing from hitting the nitrus button

sounds like you can do a lot to mod these things out. where can you get some of those parts, like those big bores, sounds like work tryin, and im pretty handy with a wrench, and these things probably that hard to tinker with anyhow.

I installed a big bore kit and it took about 45 mins to do. They sell them with a new cylinder so their a bolt on mod.

If you want to build a fast pocket bike you want
Big bore kit ( 44mm piston high comp 31:1 -17:1) $150
33mm Full Circle Crank (+1mm stroke) $50
Big bore carb $50
Do that and it will be fast but if you want it faster
reed $20
Exhaust systom $50-$200
+ lots more

Heres some parts stores. Theirs more places. They even sell race motors for these.

wow, im really looking into these things, they can be modded for so little money, do you know of a place thats sells cheap cag ones, idc if its used even, they looked like a blast

I got two of mine from minipocketrockets.com and one off ebay. Their all basicaly the same.
They all are going to be around $200. You could pick up a pocket rocket quad for $300. If your looking for cheep just google pocket bike forums and you will find used bikes cheep. I even seen watter cooled race bikes for only $300 used.

The #1 thing is to make sure you get one with a cag motor and not a mid bike motor.

And pocket bikes only come with 2hp stock not 4 or 5 hp like the sellers say but their alot faster than people think you can hit around 50mph with out spending lots of money and stock will be more powerful than you think.

The more air the motor is getting the higher rpm it will hit and the higher top speed you will have their is no rev limiter on these bikes most top out at around 8000rpm but can hit 13+ easly. You can change sprockets also which are only like $10. A jet kit will cost around $7.

Mine with a Bore out carb, Port and polish +2mm and with 2 boost ports added and a k&n type filter was hitting 39mph and that costed me nothing I did it all on my own and the filter came with the bike.

I lator installed a 44mm big bore high comp piston in mine and i passed my friend on a tractor which was going 40mph.

But with the mods I had, the clutch kept going out and i had a aftermarket race clutch. The springs would snap from the power so I had to go to fleat farm and find some really strong springs and for some reason with the springs it sounded like a 4 stroke and the clutch engaged at a higher rpm since they where stiffer which is what you want.
Once i lightened one of my stock clutches so much that it would only engage at a really high rpm and wheelied on its own the first couple times till it snapped the chain.
