i like the 450r better....i rode both....but i also raced the yfz through the trails and took him 2 outta 3 times and we switched and he got me 3 outtaa 3 on my 450r.... But like everyone else would say find a friend with one and ride it and see what you like...also i did this many times when my friends didnt have one to test i would see who was selling one and go check it out and test ride it and most of the time they were chill and let me ride it around the block

Well i have ridden a modded yfz450 before, but dont know anyone with a 450r..

And i really dont have money to buy one, thats why i posted the trade thread, im hoping SOMEONE would wanna, you never know. SOmeone wanted to trade a DS650 before for my 400, but im the one that backed out cuz those things are elephants.

I did like the power of the yfz though, it wont touch my dads 55hp banshee, but it was still a runner

o i see... well IMO the 450r is a little too high and on both of mine i put an XC link to drop it (works great). In a drag they are real close stock but the 450r pulls a little bit, through the trails i cant ask for a better quad than the 450r with the xc link, the 450r suspension is better than the yfz, and as haveing had expieriance with both i think the 450r is alot more reliable and easier and cheaper to work/fix. If i were you i would go for the 450r.

BTW- im not saying go for the 450r cause the YFZ's suck or anything like that. But im selling one 450r to get a YFZ, because i want a track quad now. So i say go for the 450r, but if you decide on the yfz either one is a great quad.

Also do you have pics of the 55hp banshee? Also you think he would sell it?

he may be 40 years old but he plans on keeping it for a long time. Even if he eventually gets a 4x4, he wants to keep it because he loves the rush.

The guy before him made good money, gave it to yamaha while still on stock bore and lots of money and said make it a screamer.

Well the installed:

FMF Fatty gold series pipes
Powercore 2 silencers
shaved head
boost bottle
reeds.

Yamaha tuned it PERFECTLY, hence so much horsepower from so few mods. Yamaha used their dyno and did it themselves.
My dad bought it on stock bore, and recently rebuilt it with wiesco pro-lites.
the thing RIPS
When he raced his friend on the yfz, once my dad got a little ahead, he just roosted the yfz. haha.

Good morning everyone and happy late thanksgiving. I am new to the boards, but I used to race a YFZ450 in GNCC racing. I loved my quad in the woods and on the track. I have ridden a good friends' 450R and I enjoyed it and actually finished 2nd on it at a local track a few years back. It was all tricked out and it seemed to have alot more pep than my stock YFZ, but the handling was about the same. Of course my quad was widened out with Dura Blue rear axel and all.
But as far a woods racing or track racing... I would take my YFZ over anyone at that time. But I havent raced in almost 3 years. Got married and have children now, so I havent got time for those things now.

thanks, and welcome to the board! :D

Yeah, i know a couple people that have to quit because of marriage. You should teach your wife to ride and have her race too :blah: haha

Yeah my dad started riding, then got my mom a bike and taught her, got me one taught me when i was old enough, and taught my younger sister, now we all ride and enjoy as a family, though i am the only one who races.... lol

I have riden the 450r and YFZ450 through the trails and MX type stuff and the 450r felt so much better suspension and handling wise. YFZ handles like crap to me and I hate the way it sits. Go 450r, you wont be dissapointed. My friend is a professional Quad Racer and he started with the YFZ450, then went to the LTR450. He always hated Honda's until he rode his friends... only having the LTR450 for a month and just riding a Honda he sold the LTR450 and imediately bought a Honda and he says he will never go back. I'm telling you, you cant beat a Honda.

The YFZ is alot smoother ride motor wise though the trails. Very useable power. TRX is a bit high ,but handles great

i had the same question as you about 4 months ago....bought an 05 and love it. all i do is trail ride with it and couldn't be happier. i dropped a tooth in the front tho just for it to be a little easier in the tight rocky areas. overall i think it was the best decision I've made. their extremely light feeling so you can just whip it around (came off a warrior which feels like a tank so big difference there) then if you come to a sand pit or something you got all the power you could want. i absolutely love mine, i say get a 450r!

11-25-2007, 06:54 PM
yeah trails drop a tooth in the front and you can do everything everyone else can

bah don't drop a tooth just spend like 300 bucks and get the HRC kit, new cam, cdi, air box mods, header, exhaust core, needle and jets for the carb and you have a whole new quad. HUGE difference in low end power and it just revs forever it seems. Night and day difference in the quad. Mines an 07 and i ride mostly trails and love it!
