Does anybody know why the CR500 link shock setup is offset?

If stuff was custom made would it be possible to make it centred? Or does it need to be offset?

About a 1-1.25" I am pretty sure the offset was made for jumping to compensate for the pull of the engine towards the chainside of the engine.

Got pics? I have never seen a centered CR500 link frame...

i bet its as simple as so there is room to the left of the shock for whatever the dirt bike has there and they just copied it.

i know on my 350rx with the cr500 shock i can just squeeze my air boot through

That's weird? what kind of frame is that?

The pull of the chain makes sence to me, but I'm beating Laeger made it offset so there would be room for the air box and intake boot to bolt up just like OEM.

O.k. I'm playing around with some ideas for my new quad. I only wish I knew someone that has some insight into why things are setup the way they are.

My new frame is going to have a 450R rear setup. What I'm thinking since I have a 250R rear shock and a CR500 rear shock and don't feel like spending a ton on another rear shock, I'm wondering will a 250R shock mount properly to a 450R?

Provided the airbox boot isn't a problem, if I center mount the CR500 link shock and get a custom swingarm made, it means I will have to shorten the shock - which elka said they can do, but is it worth the effort for the linkage (because I will lose travel)

CR500 linkage is by far the longest shock setup 18 inches
the offset is 8 degrees

my zps cr shock is a little over 19.... but yeah they are crasy long

hey did any of you guys have to cut a hole in the seat pan for the top of the shock not to hit the seat pan?

The CR top mount on my Laegers clears the seat just fine.

when I had my atc250r frame made, I wanted a cr500 link, but the guy showed me where the top of the shock would be and that would be almost at the top of the seat. That and how the frame is designed ended the idea of the cr500 link. He did say on some they had to cut holes in the seat pans.

i was told that the off set was for the air box tub

I've somewhat concluded that the offset was made to clear the airboot because if it was centered there is no way you could run an oem one and probably barely an LT500 airboot.

I know it was used very little but is the CRF450 linkage very similar to the CR500?

i know the elka linkage for the trx 450r is close to cr500

the reason the shock is offset is so can use stock 250r intake boot and exhast without custom made ones ,strictly a clearance issue
