Is the bike running? What does the plug look like?Ill bet its rich.Do a wide open plug check and see if its rich or lean. Those jets seem a liitle big to me,but Im not sure how much 300 ft of altitude difference will make.I would start with 170 main and a 50 or so pilot.Thats what Im using on a 310 engine at about 350ft alt

I'd start a little fatter than Dave suggested, you're running a smaller displacement motor which won't pull as much vacuum through the carb as a 310. My 310 is using a 52 pj, middle clip, and probably a 175 main as soon as I dial the jetting in for this rebuild. Duncan Racing has good jetting info in their tech section.

Forgot to add, this is around sea level at 50 degrees.

before doing any jetting you need to make sure the the float is set properly and that the float needle is shutting the fuel off. also make sure that all the reed petals are seal good against the age.

i'm in sentral missippi and am not very much higher in elenvation than you.

i'd start at about a 45-48 pilot focussing on getting the pilot cicuit tuned in first and then set the main at about 170 and do a WOT plug chop on the main jet and go from there.

dave 83 i had a a 58 polit and a 172 main and kept blowing rings off of pistons and the plugs was like someone was painting them with gray primere spray paint the plugs now if you look close you can see a little brown contient to them on the weight porslon part in the center

You better do a leakdown test if you're jetted that rich to get a tan plug. It sounds like you have an airleak.

lol, i think that oil was just the oil used to lube up the cylinder, during the rebuild

Sounds like an airleak to me also.Something else to do before you go much further, check the compression and make sure your running enough octane.I know its not causing all your trouble, but you may have some detanation problems too.As for the airleak,if you cant do a leakdown test, start it up and spray some wd-40 or starting fluid around the reed cage and carb boot.If it revs up,theres your leak.It still could be sucking air around the crank seals, but at least you can eliminate the carb and reed gaskets.

If you plan on keeping your R, it's definitely worth your time to make one. Those blood pressure bulbs are a pain in the *** to find locally, I had to buy mine off Ebay.

1.25" white Sch. 40 pipe is about the right OD for the intake boot when I was running a 36mm carb.

I would run a 58 pilot, 178 main with a DGH needle in the middle. What needle is in your carb?
