my buddy bought a 05 raptor pretty cheap and the electric start dont work, makes some awuful noises when its running, second gear clanks loudly, it even locked up idiling in Neutral and stalled. when its running you can watch the front sprocket like jump an 1/8th turn when it clanks. all the other gears work great, besides neutral,1st,and 2nd.

when he got it the case was cracked, a little jb weld fixed that. the bolt were the reverse wire goes in was busted and leaking oil when we fire it up. so i put a brass plug in there stoped the leak and grounded the reverse wire.

couldi t be possible that the insides of that bolt got knocked in the engine and that is what the problem is? or is it a dreaded dead tranny? The top end is great no smoke, no valve noise. the valves were to spec.

worst case he has to replace the transmission. what is a good site to find info and parts for the 660?

Previous owner broke his chain, wrapped it around the front sprocket. In the process, the chain cracked the case and broke the reverse switch. Internally, second gear broke a tooth or an engagement dog (at the least) from the sudden output shaft siezing while under high torque. The gear tooth or dog is floating around in your sump and occasionally gets sucked up into the gears, stalling the engine in neutral. Sorry, but it's case cracking time.
