I have a built 440 with a Hotcams stage 2 cam.. I got a pretty loud clicking noise in the topend.. Would the clearences on the cam make this kind of noise?? Burns no oil, still has gobs of power, easy to start, I don't think I have a major problem, what your all's opinion??

It depends how loud the noise is. Either the valves are way out of adjustment or it jumped timing and the valves are hitting the piston.

If the valves were tapping the piston though, wouldnt the motor run just a little out of whack?? this thing runs perfect with no hesitations and still extremely strong.. But I never thought about that though,, I hope they are just out of adjustment a little.. Thanks, I'll look into that if adjusting the valves doesn't help..

It happened to me and it ran fine. Strangely enough, it didnt even bend the valves. Just make sure you check the valves cold, or the adjustment wont be right. im sure you know that though.

Its possible, but you would have noticed immediately if you would have.

I think he is talking about more of a loud tapping noise.

1. check the cam timing.
2. check the valve adjustment.
3. check the timing chain for slack.
4. check the cam tensioner.

I guess I'll pop the top and look at the sprocket on the cam and see if its in time,, I just wanna fix it, gonna try to ride this saturday at Turkey Bay.. I knew the stage two always made a click, but its a little louder than I remember.. That thing runs like a raped ape though,, feels good when there's big power under your thumb, and I love climbin' hills..

Make sure your piston is not in backwards, also, if you have a high dome piston and the wrong base gasket may let your valves hit the piston...
Cam chain may be loose, check for play when you remove your valve cover.

Well, I found my problem,, I popped the top and the hex bolts holding the sprocket to the cam were very loose.. I adjusted no timing just tightened the bolts checked timing and put the top back on.. Fired the motor and she purr's like a kitten, I don't even wanna know what my valves look like, they may have not been touching. I think I picked up a few more horses after that also, but thought I'd let yall know..
