86 pipe?

Anbody know why the 86 fmf rev pipe will only fit a 86 bike? Different mounting tab set up or something?

It's due to the '86 engine using a short rod crank, compared to the later '87-'89 engines using a long rod crank. The actual pipe itself is what is different, but all years use the same mounting locations, etc.

What does the crank length have to do with the pipe? I was at the fmf site and seen they only sell the rev pipe for 86

86 Frames had fatter front motor mount tabs welded to the frame then the later year OEM frames. I think this affects mounting locations on some pipes.

I didn't realize that you were only asking about the FMF Rev pipe. I know that their Fatty pipe comes in both '86 and '87-'89 models, because I once had this same question. I gave you the response that someone else gave me, so hopefully it's right. If not, I'm sorry that I misinformed you.
