hello has anyone gotten into extensive night riding? cause the question is about adding lights on the 400ex, any ideas like where to buy, what kind work best, do you need to modify the stator to push the extra watts, do you leave the old lights on or block them off ? Or can you just add a light bar to your bumper and run all the lights? its getting to be camping season and night rides are a blast if you can see. tx all info is greatly appreciated!!

LMAO... What part of the country do you live in? lol

I think Marcums sells a nice light kit that mounts on your bars.

These Ricky stator Baja 2 lights work well for me. Mine have 35 watt bulbs. You can slap a couple of 55 watters in there, but you need to have your stator mod'ed. They are extremely sturdy. The drawback is that they add 15 pds to your front end. The pics were taken last year before most of my mods were done.

They shine so much further ahead than the stockers. Remember, these are Baja lites. They are designed for so called "open terrain" riding. I wouldnt label them as pencil beam lites although, the beam could be broader for tight trail riding at night.

For 240 clams, I give em the thumbs up!:D

How easy do they come off?....could they be taken
off for day use and reinstalled for night?

The lites bolt in four places. They share the two gas tank bolts and the two bolts on the top of the front shocks. To remove/Install them, you must remove the gas tank plastic. All you need is a 12mm socket and 10mm socket. I can remove/install them in prob 5 minutes.

A little note. The lites were designed to be installed with your stock headlites in place. That was NOT the case with me. It was a close fit. The backs of the Baja lites would touch the stockers lenses. The stockers look useless behind those airplane landing lights AND I wanted to rid of some useless wieght, so I removed the stock head lite.

During day riding, my lites are in a box, covered in bubble wrap.

I have trailtech lights in mine and really love them. Much brighter than stock. We ride at Glamis at night and it really helps to have the lights on the handlebars so you can swing them around to check the dune before you charge. plus there cheap.

I put these 6" PIAA's on my 300ex with a simple angle bracket bolted to the stock headlight mounts. No roll cage though. One fog light with a wide beam with a sharp cutoff on the beam for the dust, the other a driving light. Wired into the stock on-off and hi-lo switch, but I added relays so I wouldn't fry the switches with my hi-watt bulbs. Also added a diode so that the fog beam works on "lo" and both are on on "hi". 80 watts in the fog, 100 watts in the driving. 300's have a 250 watt stator!

You can't run both at once so I use the stock lights as low beams and I wired the Trailtech lights as High beams

Hey Guys, All I can say is go with TRUE H.I.D lights u anyone running the Ricky Stator Maxtels 8inch lights can convert them to HID. I run two 8inch Maxtel lights that are converted to HID, using the STOCK STATOR. I also made a removeable light ring that houses the lights so I can take them off during the day and slap them on in less then a minute at night. I just have a subframe thats stays on the bike. If u want I can take some pictues and post them.

I hope the pictures are useful. the light ring in the picture is made out of 1/2 round tubing. My next light ring is going to be made out of 5/8 rd tubing. As u see in the picture both lights are sepeate so I can adjust the angle of the lights. As u see all u have to do is lossen the Alum. knob and pull back or push forward. Its sweet.

Here is the top view. The yellow cord in the picture is the power cord. I just tied it into my stock headlight wiring under the plastic. So I use my stock switch. THe connector is a oneway plug so I can put it on in the dark. The whole lightring comes off with just pulling the two pins.

Need more detail pictures let me know first time using a Dig. Cam

Has anyone tried the Ricky Stator Aluminators?
I have not seen the Trail Tech's or the Aluminators up close. I was wondering if either is brighter/longer lasting/ tougher case, etc.

Thanks
Phil

Where do you get the HID lights?

The only ones I could find were KC lights and they were $2218.00 a set!

Hey a good place to go is http://www.suvlights.com/ they have a 8inch light for $299. each, ricky stator, this guy is really nice just email him or call him, or u could do a search on the web under "HID lights". I have a set of Maxtel 8inch lights converted to HID. I then took the back cover off and threw it away. Then u do that u lose your mount for the light so I welded to stainless washers on to the light rings so I have full adjustable lights. Up and down about an inch, just by turning the Alum. knob and pulling or pushing. its sweet. I hope I helped u out, any other questions just ask....

P.S. I bought my first HID at www.bajadesigns.com they sell a complete system for around $800 or so.
