Could a clutch basket break if the clutch is slipping?

slipping no, but if your basket is getting worn and getting grooves in it it can cause it to break. the plates slam back and forth in teh basket and can actually break a finger off teh basket itself.

my personal fave is the Performance Engineering (http://www.motosport.com/offroad/productDetail.php?prodId=28950&nav=&sMMY=) . a good quality basket for a fraction of the cost

stock is cheaper than aftermarket, but if it were me i would upgrade to an aftermarket on.

mine had grooves in it, so i replaced it with a Vortex unit and love it.
