I was wondering if honda has put a pull start anywhere on the ex's. I don't think there is one on it, but it would be pretty dumb to make a quad that only relies on battery. so after the battery goes dead how are you supposed to get it started? Besides pulling or push starting it.....

Well, you got the 2 ways already figured out. You can add kickstart to a 300ex for about $700.

I don't care how many times I've kicked my bike......it has never started!

Yes jabber, we have all kicked our bikes, but unless we have a kickstart, it will get you nothing but a broken toe (Im sure to get an interesting story out of this one...:D) Honda actually sells the kit, back in the late 80's-early 90's the 300ex was the 250x. The 250x had more compression, a smaller stroke, and most importantly, kick start. You need to get the right side case from a 250x (probably cheap at an atv salvage yard) and install it on your bike.

Not sure if that will work ridered. The right side case may fit like you said but the crankshafts are definately different. The 300EX crank may not have a gear or whatever it is that engages with the kickstarter? Does anyone know about this for sure? I thought I remembered reading about someone that wanted to put a 300EX crank in a 250X to add stroke but it wouldn't work for some reason and I thought the reason was because of some gear on the crank.

get on top of a hill, put the quad in gear, roll down the hill with the clutch pulled in and when you get some speed pop the clutch and when the quad starts to come alive tap the throttle and it should fire up.

Find a buddy and a strap and break it to lead! I have pull started my many times in the winter.

You must have fun jump starting that high compression motor eh?

another ex with the possibility of a recoil is the 250ex you can mount the 250 recon recoil right to it. Honda only put a removeable cover on the rear of the motor. I still dont know why they did this it seems it would have got a few more brownie points if they would have left it on.:D

Not sure here, but I thought someone on these formus said that they pulled their side case and the idler gear was there. I have never even ridden a 300ex, so I am going off what I have heard here.
