Well, its cold, not alot of riding going on anymore. maybe go out in the snow at night once or twice but thats pretty much it for me. So, i decided im going to dump a few dollars into my quad and make it more to my liking, my insperation came from Rootar's 416ex.

On the wishlist I have:

1. HMF slipon or any pipe
2. 450r Carb / Jets
3. Magnum Clutch Perch/Lever/Blockoff
4. 300ex Clutch Cable
5. Quadtech scooped hood
6. Seatcover
7. New Brake Pads
8. Akraix Graphics/Duncan Graphics
9. Powdercoat lots of parts
10.Plastic Renew on the rear fender
11.ceramic coat header
12.Grips
13.Nerfbar Nets
14.Front Wheels
15.CLEAN EVERYTHING
16.Black Maier Front Plastic
17.New bushings, bearings, whatever that needs replacement
18. Aluminum Polish on all aluminum parts
19. Possible frame gusset

Then after thats all complete i want to buy suspension.

I already started taking the parts off to be PC'd. im hoping for it to look like this when its completed (but of course i have tires, nerfs etc..)

What do you guys think? Ill post up pictures of how it comes along:blah:

I'm really lucking out with the powder coat. My neighbor does it for a living and I had helped him out over the summer with stuff and he said hell do it VERY cheap for me, so I'm getting everything powder coated for next to nothing

IDK what ur budget is but instead of the black wheels maybe try and find some cheap red ring hipers for sale that would look better i think.

Ya definetly. Try to do more stuff that will help you in the long run. Don't waste your money on flashy items. If you're gonna race next year joe I'd say suspension exhaust, and maybe a powdercoat if you're getting it done cheap.;)

heres some pictures of the beginning. im not aloud to completely tear it down untill our garage doors arrive so when they're in i can completely do it:p

i also re-located the battery into the airbox. came it good i just need to put silocon or something to seal off the edges and drill the holes for the connections.

Here's my .02-

-Make sure the powdercoater IS NOT using the environmentally friendly pre-coat treatment. The zinc-sulfide prep stuff is crap. I had mine PC'd the tree-hugger way, and it sucks. I'd use epoxy enamel on bare metal. I had to do my a-arms that way because of the ball joints. The epoxy enamel I got from home depot is lasting a heck of a lot longer than the PC that I paid 50 times as much for.

-PC Racing's plastic renew is a joke. If you don't plan on washing your quad ever, than maybe it's okay. Other than that, do it my way and sand the plastics down to 1500 grit, steel wool them aggressively for a long while, and then buff them at about 12000 RPM with a 6" wheel and polishing compound. THAT'S a legit shine. Real plastic smoothness. No junk, no weird water-soluble solvents. Just clean, factory shine.

-Can you weld? I made a sweet spindle removal tool by welding a nut into the end of a short length of pipe, and threading a short bolt into the nut. Then, I could put the pipe over one spindle stud, and back the bolt out against the other. Then, flip it over to pop out the other one.

-I have an FMF Titanium 4 that may be up for sale... It's the hi-flow header and the can. I'm trying to get a 450r over winter, so the go-fast parts for the 400 will all be up for grabs soon. Let me know if you still need a setup.

Good luck.

Ruby Soho
11-22-2007, 07:34 AM
the guy im getting the powder coat from does it for alot of people aswell as his own quad and truck. i will talk to him on his process thanks for the heads up.

like i said before i wasnt going to buy pc plastic renew, i meant renew my plastic the way you said.

yes i can weld, but only steel our welder is like a 50 year old stick welder haha

thanks for the ideas

Ruby Soho
11-23-2007, 06:33 AM
happened where? the airbox?

if so.. no it was fine, but i relocated the battery box inside of the airbox to remove it from the side of the subframe

JimmyHoffa

Ruby Soho

What the hell did ya do to the swinger?

Ruby Soho
11-26-2007, 05:39 AM
MX.

im pretty sure it cracked because the (sitting on the quad) left swinger bearing was gone, and the aluminum eventually elongated causing about half inch of play in it, and with that play in there and jumping fairly large jumps (on stock suspension) cracked it.

im hopefully buying a houser swinger, and will modify the new pivot bolt to be greased aswell as the houser being greasable i shouldnt have problems with that anymore

What swinger did you buy?

Ruby Soho
12-27-2007, 10:47 AM
i found a good deal on a stock one. so i ended up going with that, i couldn't find an after market one that was a decent price and was in good enough shape.

Ruby Soho

its very hard to use, and i was weary of using it on the frame. i wish we had a wire feed:ermm:

thanks for the compliments guys.

my swingarm should be in thursday, its coming with a pivot bolt aswell, my last one ended up in a million tiny peices in the dust pan:p

so as of now its onto polishing and cleaning every little part, checking on bearings and painting the stock arms the factory silver. reason for that is they looks terrible now and i wont have a front end for atleast 2 months so the stockers go back on for now, and i wouldn't want them to ruin everything:o

ill keep updating as everything comes in and what-not. and then ill get pictures of the going back together process:devil:

I think actually its the 250x cable, because it is longer therefor you don't need to run it through the exhaust headers and instead you can run it around them and never melt it. Which i have done and my current clutch cable is very stiff:scary:

01-06-2008, 05:13 PM
I'd get houser with like Works triple rate shocks, the g force axle is a great choice for the money.

I think LT houser arms are the same price as the std travel arms IDK, you would be suprised at how fast you can turn with +3 arms OMG!

I took my desert tank of today so now my quad looks like an actual MX quad.

i could only imagine how well that must handle

go snap a picture of it! id like to see it without the tank

Here's a newly updated pic of the quad. It really does look alot better without that nut buster tank on but it did stretch my seat a bit I think, plus my gas tank plastic is on one side but the other side wont even go on cuz my bro rolled it so the plastics are all shifted but it all holds.

Hope you like it?

I'm trying to get my parts but for some reason it's been awfull, I keep emailing K&K but I never get no emil back they never keep me updated and im getting very flustered about it. I ordered my parts before christmas actually on the 14 of Dec and it's been an emailing war, they said my axle was on backorder which I didnt mind but they said on the 27th that they shipped out my lines and so far I havent seen nothing.

Sorry for the long post and yes I will enter when the 400ex only comes on I entered last time in the open and that was a mistake.

I'm really jealous now!! BTW love your air box bracket.

Ruby Soho
01-26-2008, 08:21 AM
haha yeah, i need to trim the bolt on it, but since the battery is in there i needed a bracket. not as good looking as an aluminum one but i figuired i could spend money in better places

today i should be putting the rest of the rear end on, finishing the wiring, the little plastic stuff and tank on top, getting the steering stem on and the front brakes, and wiring all the controls up to the bars

then im going to paint the a-arms with a stockish grey so they dont look terrible so those will go on in a few days, dont wanna rush it:D

but i can put the plastic and all that on in the mean time and see how it comes out

97WarriorRider
01-26-2008, 08:27 AM
Its looking great...Did you paint the front plastics?

Ruby Soho
01-26-2008, 07:03 PM
nope, just the red rears and im having graphics made that will blend them together.

i may mod some red 450r rear fenders on.. that would look pretty cool, heres the latest picture i took

J/W how your gonna get it off the table when you get more stuff on?

Ruby Soho
01-26-2008, 07:33 PM
haha it feels good knowing people like my quad and how im making it:)

and as for getting it off.. same way we got it on back in november

my friend mike whos been helping out with the build grabs one nerf, i grab the other and we move it off:D

Honda#4
01-26-2008, 07:43 PM
Yea I like it alot, wish I had mine rebuilt now so I could test out my axle, imagion that bought $1600 worth of stuff and I can't even ride it, all because my dad wants me to take my quad into the stealership.

Ruby Soho
01-26-2008, 08:04 PM
if i was in your shoes, i honestly would go nuts haha

why would you need to bring it in?

hondarider101

i would try and put 450r fenders on it. looks good.

Honda#4
01-27-2008, 01:03 PM
I am nuts, i'm never myself when I don't have my quad to rip around on gotta settle for my snowmobile and thats not even close to the fun I have on my quad. And my dad thinks thats the only way to fix it, he doesn't know about the services from other companies besides honda, and I dont think he knows I can do it either but I know I can, he darn nere watched me jet my quad when it was 12:00 at night and I had absolultly no light to work with.

But he's gonna pay for the rebuild cuz i'll be damned if I will spend 500 bucks on labor.

Ruby Soho
01-27-2008, 03:18 PM
are you re-doing the engine?

Honda#4
01-27-2008, 04:17 PM
Yep sure am, I would like to make it a 416 with a JE piston running 11:1 comp ,Hotcam Stage 2,CRF Cam chain, and Cosmetic gaskets, but I doubt i'll get that stuff.

I don't have the slightest idea on what there gonna do to it or what they'll put in it but I will give them what I want above.

Ruby Soho
01-27-2008, 04:50 PM
your quad would be amazing with that engine.

i think you can do it yourself. top ends are cake. it really isnt worth paying a shop to do it.

good luck with whatever road you end up taking

mikeB
01-27-2008, 04:51 PM
Yea. gettin the quad on and off that table isnt that hard. Kinda a pain to do but it beats workin on a concrete floor.

Free table = Easy & fun to work on.

Honda#4
01-27-2008, 05:20 PM
Thanks Joe for the boost in confidence, well with this online small engine program I am taking it covers 4 stroke motors as well as 2 stroke ones so I'll see what that's all about, but I do have a repair manual and it looks pretty straight forward i'm just afraid of getting the timing all off something like that.

After it gets rebuilt I might have to look into a full exhaust. We'll see but for now as far as parts I want, I need MX tires then I'd like to sell my nerfs and bumper and pegs to get all IMS/Roll stuff.

Ruby Soho
01-27-2008, 05:50 PM
timing is simple, do you have a clymer manual?

and mike. when are you coming over to help with getting it off the table?

heres some new pictures.. should be complete tomorrow night
