i would like to know what the gearing ratio is from the front sprocket to the rear... i know that the going one down on the front is more drastic than going one up in the rear so what i want to know is how many teeth do i go up on the rear until i get to a point to where i could have just went down one in the front?

3 is about right.
All you have to do is divide the rear sprocket count by the front to get the ratio.
3 is as close as your gonna get....at least in "whole" teeth :-)
