im doing this for my cuzin...he has an 03 660 and everytime you try to start it ....it makes like a clanking or grinding sound....but when it fires up it runs good .....any ideas on what could it be...

no one else need reply, its the one-way bearing, or "starter clutch", now tell him to get a L+A desging, or a L+L design. if he gets another stock one it will just break again. now if he wants to put it in himself go to www.raptortranny.com and click on the installation. i installed one myself on my 2002, it took about 2 hrs an cost me 140 bucks., thats cheap. no problems since, an o yeah tell him not to start it to much an he will be able to re-use his 52 teeth gear peace.

Sorry Rptr, but this needs to be added. Inspect your 52t gear's bearing surface where it is grabbed by the one-way's sprags. If it is not almost mirror smooth you must replace it too, or the new one way will get chewed up quickly.

Other than that, Rptr660kills is right on it.
