i had one on my old 400. it made the throttle response really good, added some power. but fair warning, you better have a good battery and starter, or else you will have starting issues

if i was going to buy another CDI box, i would have bought a Dynatek programmable one. but they are very expensive.

I hated the dynatek, I had it even had the custom curve kit to program different settings on my computer, it fried 3 different times. I sent it back to dyna every time and they sent me a new one everytime. Everytime the same result. I got no more than an hour ride on each cdi until my bike just died and wouldn't start back up. SO if you do get one have your stock cdi handy so your not stuck somewhere. Best cdi I ever ran, with no issues of any kind including starting or battery draining is PROCOM which also sells brand new for $40

did you notice a power difference with the procom... they look jsut like the stockers...

don't look for a cdi box to give you more power. Get any brand and get them dynoed before and after. If you get anything at all from them it'll be like a tenth of a hp, which truly you'll notice more in your head than a true improvement. Get them because you have a high performance engine that can out rev the stock unit so you need a higher rev limiter. If you want one because you want a more aggresive timing change to try to gain power use AMR Racing. Theirs are nice and cost aover a 100 for their stage 3 race cdi. My opinion though run procom. I've ran dyna, white bros, and procom. Procom best by far, most reliable and best value.

If you don't even have engine work I wouldn't waste your money on any cdi, you can't rev high enough with a stock so there is no need for it. ANd if you are riding around hitting your rev limiter with a stock bike you need to learn how to shift. and in terms of changing the timing they truly don't make a noticable difference and can cause some motor problems down there road.

yea i get what you are saying... but im just looking for those extra rpms... even if its not a whole lot any little bit will help me right now... and i know how to ride... lol but how can you tell the procom from the stock box?

Without a built engine the extra RPM's don't help you. The engine's power is way down by the time you hit the stock limiter. Much better to shift and get back into the power band.

No offense, but maybe you don't know how to ride. Those extra rpm's do absolutly nothing for you but besides put your engine at a more potential place to not function, aka break. Your stock engine also makes virtually no power above 9000 rpms, so if you get that high in rpms close to the stock rev limter, you should have shifted about 1000 rpms ago to stay in your power band. You should be shifting around 7600 to 7800 rpm to get the maximum potential out of your bike and the fastest drag times if you do that. Extra rpm's does not mean more power. It'll hurt your engine more than anything especially a stocker. You build your engine like mine then buy one, until don't bother wasting your money. I'm just trying to help. Don't believe me call, Duncan Racing at 619-258-6306 they are one of the best and most reputable engine builders in the country and ask for Lenny Duncan who is the 400ex specialist he'll tell you the same. He's also the same person who built my engine.

The procom box is cleaner made and says procom on it, the stock one says hn1 real small, but who cares about telling them apart, you can't see it when you ride anyways. If you are worried about getting them mixed up spray paint the outside of one or mark it some how. I can mix mine up and easily tell which is which with put some crazy markings or whatever it is you want.

yes i understand that too and i know how to ride once again...
