just out of curiosity why the 400 over the 450?
1) i had to put about $1000 into the 450r to feel as comfortable on it as i did the 400ex...i gave the 450r over a year. until i had the shocks revalved, front and rear, i was faster on the 400ex. granted, the 400ex has elka recs up front and gt thunder link in the rear, but the higher quality 450r shocks just didn't cut it. i had only ridden a hadnful of times on the 400ex with the suspension work done to it.
2) the 400ex starts when it is warm...the 450r does not. it is a major headache.
3) i had to put on a aftermarket pipe to be able to ride the 450r with most of my riding group. yes i like to tear it up, but sometimes we have the family rides or i am with my father ion law that rides a ute. there is wayyy too much clutch work trying to keep the revs high when you are not going ballzout. before i put on the pipe, and even though i had been on a clutch consistently for about 10 years, i would still stall the dang thing 6 or 7 times a ride with them...then i would be waiting for it to start...
right now, i keep bidding on 04/05 carbs with the hot start to see if that helps with the starting issue...if it does, i will spend the $$$ for an fcr replacement and the 04/05 carb will go on the 400ex

I have the 2005 450R and I never had a problem starting it 2 kicks is when its cold when its warm one kick is for sure. I dont know much about the 06 and up models but I am higly satsified with my 05 450r
it is def. an 06 and up problem...if i had an 05, i might be less unhappy, as that is becoming my biggest issue...the er was the worst decision i had made...although i have heard of some of the 06 kickers having the same problem...
i know hisis not an 06, but there are still the suspension issue that i had...
don't get me wrong, now that i have dropped the cash, i love the way the bike feels more than the 400ex, but when it won't start...
the last 2 times out, i left the r sit and took the 400ex...

Every ER ive seen wont start when its hot, but everyone with a kciker can start it up first kick. They really arent hard to kick either. If I had a 450r, it would be a kicker model.
