I think JE has a 12:1 now too dont they?

it depends on if you want to run race gas or not. If you do go the 14:1 but if not i think the max you can run is 12:1

Like spanky101 said it depends on if you want to run race gas. 13-1 or higher you should run race gas. You may be able to get by with a 50/50 mix of race gas at 13-1 but not any higher. Anything lower you should be fine on pump, but a 50/50 mix of race gas at 12-1 wouldn't be a bad idea.

Yay, misinformation.

I'm no genius, but I do know this.

Mixing race gas, and regular high octane will not give you an octane rating halfway between race and high octane. It will give you race gas mixed with high octane.

Now, do we all know that octane rating is resistance to burning?

(You do now)

So half of your gas will start to ignite before the other half. Pretty cool, I guess. Not for performance though. :blah:

try not to be more intelligent than u are. a simple-------

i prefer 100% 93 octane or 100% race fuel would have sufficed.:ermm:

Perhaps, but then people would be risking detonation using a mix of fuel, that doesn't actually mix. You can run whatever you want, It's your quad, but people should know that mixing 100 and 93 DOES NOT make 96.5 octane.

I wish I knew that a week ago before I mixed my Torco race gas with Shell 93. Oh well it seems to run fine like this but I guess its not worth it. I do enjoy the smell though.

I've been looking into this and I see alot of people around the web that say you can mix Octanes.
Now I dont know what to think
My quad has 12:1 comp, the owners manual calls for 91 or higher
91 seems too low.
Any Ideas?

Wikipedia "Octane Rating" and you can see how they determine the octane of a given fuel. They also explain how bottles of Octane Boost work, thought that was pretty cool. I couldn't find anything solid yet on mixing octane, but I paid a lot of money for that information, lol. And I doubt the oil companies are in my teacher's pocket trying to get us all to buy race gas, or premium for that matter.

I'll find ya something solid.

This is a good thread with lots of room to debate.
I was out today at the Badlands in IN. Air temp from 38-45, I used Torco100 mixed with Shell93.
Good mid and high range power no signs of any knocking, but Not so good on the bottom end. Got a sputter/hestation or two but I didnt think much of it.
I am gonna run straight 93 next week to see if any difference.

Yeeha! Real world testing. That's what I like to see.

or you can mix 93 with octane booster which will increase octane rating up to 60 points is the highest ive seen which is NOS. which will actually make your 93 a 99 octane fuel. and yes i have done this and yes it did make a better performing bike.
