Which is faster stock for stock 250r or 400ex. My friend thinks a 400ex would blow a 250r away

I would think in a drag race the 250r would smoke the 400 off the line but maybe depending how long the drag last the 400 could catch up i suppose if it had like 5 miles to do it ?lol

Im a bit biased tho! as i actually own a stock 250r.

Who knows maybe if i can find somebody with a stock 400ex while im out riding ill drag race him and find out?

Not owning a stock 250R but I would have to assume even stock to stock the 250R would definitely take the 400ex.

i have a 400ex and a 250r with pretty much the same mods and i think the 250r handles about the same as the 400 but the 250 is much lighter..... i would think there about the same in handling

I personally own both a 2002 400EX and a 1988 250R.

Everything in every way is better in my opinion about the 250R. Faster, lighter, better handling.

Hell i even think it sounds and looks cooler.

If i had to choose which one to sell and which one to keep tomorrow. I'd be on the 250R this weekend with a smile on my face.

I own both, and both are piped (because, honestly, who owns a 250r with a stock pipe?!?)

We raced on pavement to remove traction issues, and the 250r got an early jump off the line. After that, it was just about dead-even through 5th gear, neither quad would gain on the other. But the 250r still had one gear left, and it could slowly pull away on top speed.

Oddly enough, though, it was a different world in sand. Maybe it was because the 250r is lighter, or maybe it was because the sand allowed it to rev quicker, the 250r was a LOT faster in the sand. Not just a little, it ran circles around the 400. And I don't think it was a paddle issue, because the 400 actually had the better set of paddles.

I can't recreate the experiment, because my 250r is far from stock now.

The 250r will beat a 400ex by a little bit, but id take a 400ex over a 250r. Don't get me wrong though, i love 250r they are sweet.

So if I put a stock pipe on my 350pv could it be considered stock? :D :D

i have never ridden a stock piped R, but they must have been pigs if stock for stock the 400ex is about the same. I think we can all agree which one gets the nod when you add a pipe into the mix....

The 350x and 400ex motors are about the same powerwise??

Well, yes and no.

By today's standards, yes. They are slow.

But they still topped out over 60mph, and 20 years a go, that was plenty fast. Plus, the true appeal of the 250r was it's POTENTIAL. A simple porting job would unlock significant power.

Kinda like cars. When the Hemi first came out, it was the best and greatest thing out there. It pushed a whopping 200hp. That's nothing by today's standards, but back then, it was really significant.

I do (well actually my father bought a left over 86 and an 87 new, and my mom never rode the 86 cause she broke her leg and had a hard time kickstarting it)

Anyways, when i got big enough I rode the 250r all the time in the trails and dunes, bone stock except for a k&n (this will blow your mind, but i replaced the stock chain in 2003)

I digress, when my buddy bought his 400ex in 2000, we raced bone stock vs bone stock , and the r had him by a couple of links, I did not walk away from him at all, I just jumped him off the line like Wilkin250r said.

(i have since bought other bikes, 06YFZ, 03 banshee)

I would trick it out, but i kind of like it when i ride it and get the looks and the guys saying you dont see em like that anymore!
