I wouldn't leave the subframe silver.. It will make your build look unfinished. Try a black or red on it!

spray paint the sub frame red or something. ive seen quite a few spray bombed sub frames and they seem to hold up, and a $0.98 can of spray paints cheaper then powdercoat lol

rollie
11-12-2007, 05:32 PM
If i do decide to do the sub frame it will be powdercoated, i dont want to cheap out with anything on this bike, haha

looks really good nick! Can't wait to see the progress through the winter!

Looks good. Do racers really need a gusset kit? And what does it do performance wise?

spanky101

i think most riders will do fine without it, but alt of guys are already tearing the bike down to the bare frame, the extra hundred bucks that could save you about 500 or so on a new frame is worth it in many peoples book...

Thanks for the compliments guys, as for the powdercoating my sponsor did it, and i traded him some stock parts for it. I think if i would have had to pay for it it would have been around $450 for everything in those pictures.

I have to work on my senior project but then later on im going to throw the frame up on the stand and put the a-arms, spindles, swing arm, rear shock, bumper, all the small stuff, so i should have more pictures soon of it all comming together, as for the engine it should be getting sent to hetrick pretty soon, just have to see what its going to cost, should it back by early january

another update haha things with this build are going really fast but to those of you that are interested, i ordered tie rod ends, a red GenX hood, new sprockets, chain, front side fenders, and a Uni filter. that should all be here in time for christmas (christmas presents haha) and my floats are also finally going to be here!!!

sorry for the long post im just excited with the progress so far

i cant wait to see this bike, im gettin more and more excited to see it. I might be just as excited as you! is there any particular reason you went with hetrick for the motor? He builds some super fast motors, if it was it would be a tough call between him and mark at baldwin motorsports!

Its gonna look killer when done man.

12-09-2007, 08:29 PM
I want to know if you bought that rear shock and linkage new from elka. If not you got the wrong link and shock. i have had the same rear end in the 2005 and 2007 bikes and they have differnt length shocks and differnt linkages. The linkage mount up points on the 04-05 swingarm are 1 inch closer to the bike than the other years no matter what length swingarm. i know this cause i had a huge problem with that and finally did some mesurments and found it out. its going to work fine everywhere but a whoop section i ended up on my back about 6 times before i started think somthing's wrong. just trying to help you out on that high dollar bike you are building. Call Elka and ask them if they are differnt cause i think they are.

I will add a pic of the 2007 and the 2005 elka dual linkages so you can see what i mean this is the 2007 linkage

12-09-2007, 08:35 PM
this is the 2005 linkage

12-09-2007, 08:37 PM
You can tell by how close the shocks mounts to the black dog bone on each and the curve in the red pieces on is really curved and one is more flat

rollie
12-09-2007, 08:39 PM
hrm.... uh oh

im not sure what to do now, LOL

the linkage is off an 04 450R so i guess it is wrong:(

i guess try to sell it and buy something else?

anybody have any ideas?

Dave400ex
12-09-2007, 08:43 PM
Call Elka and ask. I don't know why using the 05 linkage with a stock 07 swingarm would be any different then using the 05 with a +1.25 on a 04-05 model. If it won't work sell it and get a Fox rear shock to match your fronts.

i agree however if they are clearly differnt shapes something has to be different, ill call elka tommrow

Anyone looking for an elka elite rear with dual link?

raced 6 times, never by me, just serviced

12-10-2007, 09:32 AM
They wont work right cause where the red part of the linkage mounts to the swingarm is differnt. Honda changed that cause they were having a harsh spot in the mid travel of the shock. i have a 2005 houser swingarm and a 2006 houser swingarm and they are the same length but linkage points are differnt. that is why elka changed theres in 06 i hate telling people news like this cause it slows down your biuld but sorry man just trying to help ya out.

12-10-2007, 09:37 AM
now i have 2 2005 450r's and i use the whole 2006 linkage shock and swingarm so you can do the same since you have the 2005 linkage and shock you can now just buy a +1.25 lonestar 2005 swingarm and it will work fine. they bolt up perfectly and than your set. It might be cheaper to do that than sell your shock and buy brand new.

rollie
12-10-2007, 10:49 AM
Yeah thats what im thinking. i found a JB +1 1/4 for $300 so i might just get that and powdercoat it.

rollie
12-10-2007, 08:40 PM
Allright guys so im picking up a used 2004 swing arm for a real good price from Craig02 to solve my problem. except now i have to get it powdercoated again:mad:  haha

by the way thank you roostar 450!!! you saved me alot of trouble im sure rather than me figuring out the hard way!

So a stock 2004 swing-arm will work fine correct, i would hate to have another useless set up haha

Scro
12-10-2007, 08:52 PM
It will bolt up, just don't forget that the 04-05 swinger is a little shorter than the 06-07.

rollie
12-10-2007, 09:20 PM
yep i know, but instead of spending more than a 1000 on new shock/link ill just run this one so the rear end is working right, then mid summer im planning on buying an LSR

12-10-2007, 09:43 PM
Yes that will work just fine the funny thing is that i had a houser +1.25 red brand new never used that i sold for 200$ and that would have worked just great with your build anyways sorry for breaking the news to you but i know i would want that if i was in your shoes. But good luck with your build i cant wait to see it when its all done i just finished my builds like 2 weeks ago its fun to do but i had 2 of them to do so it was tice as long and confusing at some times.

Ryan......

hendershot106
12-11-2007, 01:02 PM
i hate to see you run the 04 05 swingarm-- u will prolly have trouble keeping the front end down! especially if you are having motorwork--

rollie
12-11-2007, 02:31 PM
yeah you guys have me thinking twice now. what sucks is no ones interested in my rear shock/ linkage, if i could sell that i'd be fine

hendershot106
12-12-2007, 08:57 AM
ebay is a wonderful thing these days. ebaying off the incorrect elka and linkage on ebay should at least give u enough funds to get a revalved rear and linkage-- which would work better than that setup u have taking space in your garage-- just my 2 cents.
